Well, this week The Jayman is flying solo without a license. Hopefully he'll be bouyed by the support of his legions of fans.. Realistically though, it may help to know that as-per-usual the show is packed full of jam of the toppest variety. We're 100% raring to go! Are you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let's Radio!
This week, Mr Jason attempts to loosely theme a couple of back-to-back selections, to stunning effect. Look/listen out for a special live recording of the themetune by Polyrhythmics & Lucky Brown, and many other special treats.
THE HIPSHAKES - I love The Hipshakes, and I'm so excited to bring you this super exciting live in the studio set by them! We'd not seen each other for many years, after recording a few great sessions and a lost classic LP together in Old School Studios in days of yore. Tonight's the night though! Whooooooo!
Planet Beet with Mr Jason & Iain Lowery - ORIGINALLY AIRED - Wednesday 8th October 2014
Wow! This week's show is our actual Xmas show, so settle even more comfortably than usual into your listening chair for some vaguely Christmas themed songs, and a load that aren't, but ARE just plain ACE! It really is a packed full of jam show this week! Seriously, it honestly is going to be an amazing show this week! I know that we often say that, but we mean it this time.
SPIRES - There was a real edge in Spires' performance the night we recorded this show at The Grand Victory in Brooklyn. It really translates to the energy of the recording, and I know you're gonna dig it. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let's Radio!
This week, it's the week before Christmas, and we warm up for the holidays by playing a starting a new Album Of The Month, by The Baron Four. Also, Jason plays one of his bestest most favouritest songs ever, and stuff my The Muffs, from their latest LP.
Wow! This week's show is our pre-Xmas Xmas show, so settle into your listening chair for some vaguely Christmas themed songs, and a load that aren't, but ARE just plain ACE! It really is a packed full of jam show this week!
KING BLOOD - It's another storming session this week from another storming Norwich based band of cheeky youngsters! Oh boy! Conor, my glamorous assistant recorded them, and did as sterling a job as usual. Go and check King Blood live if you get the chance. Yes, that includes you!
This week, it really is genuinely the last week of Deerhoof's "La Isla Bonita" as Album Of The Month (or is it...?), and we have some more classic Robert Wyatt. Also, a bunch of other great tracks from the likes of Timo Ellis, Spires, and other nice people.
Wow! This week's show comes at you live from New Yoik City, as our intrepid pair are there on Holiday. What mischief will they get up to? What adventures will they relay to us in stereo on the airwaves?
SECRET FROM RICHARD - It's another storming session this week from another storming Norwich based band of cheeky youngsters! Oh boy! Conor, my glamorous assistant, has been recommending Secret From Richard for a while now, so I said "you go girl!", and Conor booked them, and recorded them, and here is the result!
This week, it's the last week of Deerhoof's "La Isla Bonita" as Album Of The Month (or is it...?), and we have some classic Robert Wyatt tracks from his days in Soft Machine & Matching Mole. Also, a bunch of other great tracks from the likes of The Love Me Nots and Ty Segall (& His Erotic Beagle?).
Wow! This week we have another Decemberween track, which is the expansive, yes, the expansive sounds of The Sha La Das. We also have a bunch of mambo, some classic but new Impressions, courtesy of Binky Griptite, and a couple of songs from the new Willie West LP.
SOLKO - It's not often we get to record reggae bands around here in sunny Norwich in the U of the K, so today's rather refreshing. Listen to all the warm, crunchy, analogue goodness, put on your skanking slippers, and most importantly, make sure you at some point leave the house, and go and catch Solko playing live, in a venue near you.
This week, our heros (debateable..) are joined again by guest co-host Fiona. She's Scotch. Deerhoof's "La Isla Bonita" is still our Album Of The Month, and we have other new tracks from all sorts of people, from all (some..) walks of life.
Wow! This week we have more tracks from the Mr Bongo 25th Birthday compilation, plus our first Decemberween track sofar this year. AND, all sorts of fantastic reissues and the odd newish song thrown in for gooderer measure.
MIRE - This week's session is a local 3-piece that were brought to my attention by my glamorous assistant Conor, who was also on engineering duties for the session. And a sterling job he's done too! Let us see if you agree. If you don't, then, well, you're wrong. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let's Radio!
This week, our lads have a guest co-host. Well, a few of them, but they end up settling on one. Will he/she dig the songs that they play in this week's show? The answer is; maybe. We continue featuring Deerhoof's "La Isla Bonita" as our Album Of The Month, and play a hoard of other new stuff.
Wow! This week we have more tracks from the Mr Bongo 25th Birthday compilation, plus we're featuring the first Budos Band record, for fun, and Jason plays some of his favourites to Gemma, to see what she thinks. Will she like them? You'll have to wait and find out..
PREDAWN - This week's live set is a psych-rock masterpiece in my humble opinion. If you like your sike loud and instense, then tonight's show will be right up your alley my friend. But please, do wear earplugs if you're at all concerned about preserving your hearing, as there's some serious cymbal and wah-wah action going on.
This week, another unexpected and surreal phonecall from Johnson. Our new Album Of The Month is from Deerhoof, and we feature some tracks from the Album For October project. Plus the usual hi & lo jinks from our intrepid hosts. We's 100% raring to go! Am you?
Wow! This week we have Little Lemmy (not the Motorhead guy), Big Joe (not the rapper), The New Mastersounds (so much better than the old mastersounds) copying The Meters and doing it well. Also, some tracks from the Mr Bongo 25th Birthday compilation, which are without fail fantastic.
BEST INTENTIONS - Well, we've got a fun set for you today, with Norwich's "Best Intentions" perking the place up with their punk pop type stuff. Conor and I were stage-diving off of the mixing desk, onto the lovely couch in the control room. It's OK, we'll get the mixing desk repaired before next week's session, so don't worry about that.
This week, we give you the 4th installment of inspirational words; so if you need some support, listen out for that at the end. Also, a phonecall from Johnson. And "Classic Album" from The Vaselines. We's 100% raring to go! Am you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let's Radio!
Wow! This week we have a band named after a tape machine, a band named after quite a long distance, a band named after a vessel for keeping pepper in, as well as a band that could be named after an old hairstyle, but are not.
DAVID CRONIN - This week we have another lovely live set that the sexy Iain Lowery recorded at his bi-weekly O.S.T night at Norwich's Cinema City. This one is a little different to his usual OST fare, in that instead of an acoustic based act, it's all electronic. David can be seen busking, electronically, around Norwich City Centre apparently, although I've not seen him personally, so it's possible that Iain is lying to me. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let's Radio!
This week, we give our third installment of inspirational words; so if you need some support, listen out for that at the end. Also, another amazing hip hop rapping music type improvised song to look forward to. And "Classic Album" from The Vaselines. We's 100% raring to go! Am you?
Wow! This week we have more from the brand new Budos Band LP, plus haunting melodies from the likes of Apple & The Three Oranges, Cherry Boop & The Sound Makers, Marlboro Men, and we kick things off with our favourite ginger ball of trouble, Shirley Temple. Oh boy! I can't wait! Can you? How will it all turn out???
Grass House-LIVE @ OLD SCHOOL STUDIOS with MR JASON - Saturday 25th October 2014
This week, we give more inspirational words to our impressionable listeners, inbetween playing fantastic tunes from the Hit Parade. So, you've got that to look forward to, more from King Tuff's new rekkid, and our last week of featuring Ty Segall's Album of The Month. Also a brand new old "Classic Album" from The Vaselines.
Wow! This week we have more from the brand new Budos Band LP, to coincide with their Bar Crawl around Williamsburg. Also, The Wrecking Crew's Plas Johnson, more from The Slingshots, a full airing of the new Lucky Brown single, and some more excellent tunes for you to stick a shake at. Oh boy! I can't wait! Can you?
RAD FRU - Hey fans, it's time to listen to some Rad Mu, by Rad Fru, LIVE, at Old Schu Stu. They're a rockin' drums and guitar duo, with loads of energy, and having been recommended them by a bunch of people, I just HAD to get them into the studio for a session. I trust you'll like. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let's Radio!
This week, we "improve" some of the songs with the use of a digital drum pad thing. It is quite fun, but loses its novelty very quickly. So, you've got that to look forward to, and more from King Tuff's new rekkid, and we continue featuring Ty Segall's Album of The Month. Also Coach-hhhhhhhhwhips, Caribou, and other stuff.
Wow! We have some tracks from the brand new Budos Band LP today, as well as some boogoloo, some slightly psych-ish rock, some tear-jerking late 60s pop, and all sorts of other stuff to tempt you. Oh boy! I can't wait! Can you?
This week, Iain's back. And all the other parts of his body. They're all here, for your delight? The magic in the air is palpable, and the chemistry is deafening. More from King Tuff's new rekkid, and we continue featuring Ty Segall's Album of The Month. We's 100% raring to go! Am you?
Wow! It's been an exciting week here at S.O.A headquarters. Seal Of Approval Records' debut 45 release has just started getting great reviews, and the orders are flooding in. Jason's just moved house, so it's the end of an era, of sorts. But he's still had time to search for an hour's worth of fantastic music. Oh boy! I can't wait! Can you?
BEN SMITH - This week's show is brought to you live on tape from Brooklyn's best venue, The Grand Victory! I was lucky enough to record a load of shows there last June, and I've gradually been bringing them to you bit by bit since then. This one's a doozy, featuring frontman from The Brought Low, the amazing Ben Smith. If you're wondering why the photos aren't from the gig, it's because I was busy doing the live sound mix, AND recording it separately to reel to reel tape, so I wasn't able to leave the booth to go down the front. You'll just have to use your imagination, or better still, why not go and see Ben playing a show? Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let's Radio!
This week, The Jayman's flying solo without a license. He makes up for the solitariness by filling your hearts, and ears, with audible items by the likes of Birds Of Hell, Wild Bore, and Invisible Familiars. Also, we continue featuring Ty Segall's Album of The Month.
Wow! I have my excellent PR/PA lady, Gemma, with me today. Some of you regular listeners may already be familiar with her, which I applaud. Not literally. What would be the point? That would just confuse her, and the listeners, unless I explained it beforehand, or straight after. Good music awaits.. Oh boy! I can't wait! Can you?
TRUE ADVENTURES - Hey, let's all have a true adventure, right here, right now! Oh, you're all a bit busy? Well, never mind. Hows about we just listen to a soothing set of songs by a band whose name just so happens to be True Adventures? Yeah, that worked out quite well.. . Just the way we like it.
This week, we kick off the show with a song about the happiness that cold chocolate brings. So, ignore what Errol Brown told you. Cold chocolate is better than the hot variety. Album Of The Month is by Ty Segall, and we also feature new stuff by Summer Camp, Slow Club, Sloan, and others. Ooh! Also! Episode 4 of Ben C Winn's "Winndow On The World"!!! How on earth could I nearly forget that!
Wow! It's gonna be another amazing show today. I can just tell.. And I really mean it this time! We've got some new blazers, a sound machine, the king of the pond, and some grits. Sounds good, right? Oh boy! I can't wait! Can you?
ENDERBY'S ROOM - Today the show comes to you LIVE, from Iain Lowery's OST night, at Cinema City in Norwich. We have a set for you from Enderby's Room, who are from that lovely town of London, where the streets are paved with filth. Just the way we like it. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let's Radio!
This week, it's a new Album Of The Month by Ty Segall, and a load of other stuff that Iain is ambivalent about pretty much. So, nothing new there then! Jason however, is over the moon about every single one of these songs, and the bands that made them. Seriously. He really is. We's 100% raring to go! Am you?
Wow! It's gonna be another amazing show today. I can just tell.. I've hand-picked a special selection of way higher than average quality, only because I know that you, the loyal listeners, are listening, loyally. Otherwise, I'd just play any old tat. Song Of The Show mention goes to Faithful Man by Lee Fields. Oh boy! I can't wait! Can you? How will it all turn out??? Let's do a radio and see!
THE WASH - Tonight is for fans of psych, prog, avante guarde, and other fantastic genres like that. The Wash is made up of David on guitar (who also drums in various bands), Shane (who is in Bavarian Rocket Groop), on keyboard & piano, and James Mason (no, not that one) also on guitar. Oh, and for one time only, there's a special handsome guest on bass, and a little bit of drums.. Stop it, I'm blushing.
This week, I can't remember ANYTHING that happened in the show. Weird, right? Oh, hang on, I do remember that Iain told some bad jokes about Sting. As did I.. Hmm, the music though, it's all a bit of a blur, as we were just having SUCH an amazing and fun time, being together, and being with you, the listener. I'm going to call you Daniel. Yes, Daniel. Also, Album Of The Month from The Hipshakes, and Classic Album from Pavement.
Wow! It's gonna be another amazing show today. I've done the dishes, and all of my other chores, and I've put the cat out. We don't even have a cat, so it was for the best. I've rounded up a team of great songs, including a few favourite artists of mine, like Ray Camacho for example.
HAPPY COLOURED MARBLES - I heard this band for the first time recently, and liked them, just about the same time that my glamorous assistant Conor said that he was going to be bringing them into the studio for a session. So, that worked out well! I've already played their stuff on the Planet Beet show, and now they're on "Live @ Old School Studios". They're taking over!!
This week, we all rejoice in the return of our secret weapon, Iain Lowery, to the fold. Will he bring that high-energy entertainment that we've become so used to? Only time will tell, and we have a bunch of that for you today. About an hour, as per usual, which contains just enough tunes to shake an average-sized stick or pointing implement at. Also, Album Of The Month from The Hipshakes, and Classic Album from Pavement.
Wow! It's gonna be an amazing show today. "How can you be so sure Mr Jason?" I hear you ask. Well, I can be so sure, because, today we welcome back Dr Patel, my erstwhile co-host, with a welcome arm or two! And BOY do we have some crackin' music with which to celebrate!
ANYTHING MAN - Regular listeners to the show will know that we have semi-regular parties at the studio, where we invite only the loveliest of people, who come along, watch the bands, have fun, and some of them jam afterwards, randomly making up songs, well into the early hours. Well, this band includes four of those people (Justina, Bromley, Andy & Joe), as they'll be semi-improvising some songs for you now, along with Mic on drums. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let's Radio!
This week, we start the show with the themetune to Mr Jason's super-exciting brand-new forthcoming TV challenge show, "Mr Jason's Location Invasion", coming soon on CANARY TV!! Also, Album Of The Month from The Hipshakes, and Classic Album from Pavement. We's 100% raring to go! Am you?
Wow! It's quite an education show today, and in places, almost autobiographical. "But Mr Jason!" I hear you say, "You didn't write any of the songs, so how can it be autobiographical?". Well, that shows what YOU know, cos I DID write one of the songs! So there! OK, it's probably the weakest song in the show, but I'm doin' my best!
LET'S EAT GRANDMA - This week, we have a live set from Norwich's best all-girl multi-instrumentalist duo, Let's Eat Grandma! Between the two of them, Rosa & Jenny, during this session they played drums, guitar, keyboard, mandolin, saxophone, cello, harmonica, chimes, and they both sang. They were rushing around, swapping instruments, running from the keyboard to the drums, that kind of thing. Hopefully they won't have a nasty fall, like Mr Dumpty.. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let's Radio!
This week, our boys start the show with another incredible made-up song, all about Sonya from Eastenders. You couldn't make this stuff up! Oh.. Hang on.. They did make it up.. Also, a brand new Album Of The Month from The Hipshakes, and some straight-off-the-minnelium-dome rapping from Iain.
Wow! What a cracking show we've prepared for you today. There's more from the new Shaolin Afronauts LP for starters, plus the new Antibalas single, and goodness knows (I know) how many classics that you may or may not have heard before. Amazing. Oh boy! I can't wait! Can you?
WOLF PARTY - Well, after a few false starts we finally managed to coordinate our schedules and get Wolf Party to travel over from sunny Essex to do a session. It's energetic, positive, and noisy. Just the way we like it!
This week, our boys start the show with another incredible made-up song, all about Sonya from Eastenders. You couldn't make this stuff up! Oh.. Hang on.. They did make it up.. Also, a brand new Album Of The Month from The Hipshakes, and some straight-off-the minnelium-dome rapping from Iain.
This week, Mr Jason brings you more entertaining banter with his new surrogate friend, "Choppy The Long-nose Pliers". Also, we get to find out about Jason's other imaginary friends, and to top things off, we discover some great new music, some great old music, and some not-so-great blue humour. How will it all turn out???
THE ORKNEY CAVALCADE - This was a fun and relaxing session. A lovely summer's day outside our nuclear bunker, and a conveyor belt of musicians inside. They swapped instruments, helped out on each other's songs, then played some songs all together at the end. Apologies for possibly mis-remembering exactly who played what.
This week, Jason is flying solo, in an attempt to get his Broadcaster License a little earlier than anticipated. It's the last week of our current Album Of The Month (Camille Davila), and Classic Album (Stars Of Aviation), so savour them while you can. Also featured are newies from L.D.C.N, Broads, The Wytches and Clan. Not bad eh? (don't answer that).
Wow! What a cracking show we've prepared for you today. There's more from Naomi Shelton & the Gospel Queens' new LP, plus The Reigning Sound, and some a track from the new Shaolin Afronauts LP. Plus, the usual buried classics that have been unearthed for future generations to dance to. Track Of The Week, Fred Hughes, definitely. Amazing.
THE HOWTOCUREDYSLEXIA BAND - I really enjoyed meeting and spending some time in the company of David, and his songs. I hope that you feel the same way after today's show. There are a LOT of solo acoustic songy singwriters in the Norwich area, but there's something special about David. These songs bear repeated listening; so I'm going to listen to them again now, for the 15th time.
This week, Jason & Iain manage to somehow stay alive for the whole of the show, and even get an exciting job offer. Listen out to find out who from.. Also listen out, for items such as Album Of The Month (Camille Davila), and Classic Album (Stars Of Aviation). Plus new singles by Claws & Gospel. It's a One-Word-Band-Name Special!
Wow! What a cracking show we've prepared for you today. There's more from Naomi Shelton & the Gospel Queens' new LP, plus The Reigning Sound, and some Fela Kuti for you to dance or relax to. Or both. Also, some cracking old funk that you really can't deny. Oh boy! I can't wait! Can you?
AMAZON BLU - Today/tonight's session is a fun one, by new & young Norwich band Amazon Blu. I should've done some research into the missing "E" at the end of "Blu(e)", but, erm, I didn't. I forgot. Well, that can be a little project for you, my dearest listener. In the meantime, get on your feet, and swayv gently, to create a nice breeze, as it's hot as hell in here.
This week, Jason & Iain die at the start of the show (in song form), and return soon thereafter with a plethora of entertaining items, including Album Of The Month (Camille Davila), and Classic Album (Stars Of Aviation). We's 100% raring to go! Am you?
Wow! What a cracking show we've prepared for you today. There's some more stuff from Naomi Shelton & the Gospel Queens' new LP, some songs about babies, some more space themed stuff, and Jason and the good doctor stretch their impersonation skills, to the max. Oh boy! I can't wait! Can you?
THE MACHISMO'S - This week's show is a special one for me. I've been a big fan of Sam Marsh since the late 80s, when he sang, drummed, and wrote the songs for Jacobs Mouse. They are probably the best band ever to come from East Anglia in the UK. One of my first gigs was supporting them at the Carnegie Rooms in Thetford, Norfolk. I remember it well, because my girlfriend at the time couldn't dance to my band, as she was feeling really ill. She made a miraculous recovery in time to jump around for the whole of Jacobs Mouse's set though! Hehe. After that band quit, Sam formed The Machismo's with various friends, and his wife Rachel. They split in 1996. I was excited to find out recently that they've reformed, and was more excited to find that they were up for coming over to Norwich for a radio session!
This week, Jason & Iain return with a brand new Album Of The Month (Camille Davila), and a brand old Classic Album (Stars Of Aviation). But the highlight of the show must surely be their improvised Calypso song. Right? Come on! Back me up on this? We's 100% raring to go! Am you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let's Radio!
Wow! What a cracking show we've prepared for you today. There's some new stuff from Naomi Shelton & the Gospel Queens' new LP, a preview from the new Budos Band LP, some space themed stuff, and at least one song about rodents.
OLYMPIANS - This week, it's a return visit from those Olympians. They'll be flexing their muscles, both literally and musically, and we'll be staring intently at them, through the smudged glass of the control room window. We suggest that you do the same. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let's Radio!
This week, Jason & Iain continue with Perkie's Album Of The Month, as well as featuring some other new stuff, and no old stuff for a change, though Classic Album will be back next week, so don't fret.
Wow! What a cracking show we've prepared for you today. It's a "UK Counties Special", apparently.. It's been a long time coming, and the good Doctor and his trusty steed The Jayman don't disappoint, themselves. More from The Story Of Lenis Guess, the new Calbata & Mixmonster 12", some vintage Lee Fields, and much more.
GUMBO VARIATION - Well, it's great to finally get Gumbo Variation back for a return visit to the studios that they like to called old school. I wasn't here to witness their first session, as my glamorous assistant Conor recorded it, so it's good to be at the helm for this one. Nice, crisp, early 70s-ish stuff.
This week, Jason & Iain manage to get to the end of the show, almost as easily and entertaingerly than normal. Learn how to modernize your laptop, how to name your shop if you are based in the town of Diss in Norfolk, UK, and other interesting and impressive stuff.
Wow! It really is a packed full of jam show today for ya laydees and gentlebens. The good doctor is back, and even gooderer than usual. Jason is his usual self, and a few other people. It's the big "Weather Special" don't forget! Please send in your drawings of the weather in your area. Oh boy! I can't wait! Can you?
KEEP UP - Well, this session has been many years in the making. We tried numerous times to arrange a Kabeedies set about 3-4 years ago, and continued attempts at that, but our schedules just never met up at the right time. They've since changed lineup slightly, written a load of new songs, and changed their name to Keep Up. It's basically a new band, but if you liked Kabeedies, you'll still definitely like Keep Up. The proof is in the pudding, and here's the musical equivalent to a pudding. I can't think of a funny name for it..
This week, Jason & Iain give you some amazing facts, and feature new musics from Perkie, The Puncture Repair Kit, aCivilian (pet detective..), as well as our standard fayre or Jaques Rundelle & Bonald Montgomerish, etc..
Wow! It really is a packed full of jam show today for ya laydees and gentlebens. .Oh boy! I can't wait! Can you? How will it all turn out??? Let's do a radio and see!
POPOP - Hurray for me! It's my birthday, have a peanut, it's my birthday, have another peanut! I could go on, ah-forever, and I probably will, but I'd sooner put some joy back in, this studio called Old School. I sincerely apologise to those of you that didn't get an invite to my birthday party recently. Please accept this musical set from POPOP as recompense. I don't know if that's spelled correctly, but it's the thought that counts. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let's Radio!
This week, Iain's back from his holiday in Greece, with entertaining tales of exotic climes, and erotic ladies. The Jayman on the other hand, has no such stories. And sore eyes. Oh well, you can't have everything. Where would you put it!
Wow! It's Show #69, the long awaited "Sexy Special", so listen out for our sexy vocal impersonations, and other, erm, treats? And there's some laid-back summery music to help get you in the mood for some sweet lovin'.
LOOSE LEAF DRIFTERS - Part One - Well, after we'd finished recording last week's set by Bavarian Rocket Groop, their leader, Shane, hung around to be the audience for this set by Loose Leaf Drifters. It was a lot of fun for everyone involved, as I was mixing it live, which is always fun, and their drummer was Pedz from Feral Mouth, standing in at no notice, and hearing the songs for the first time, with no rehearsal! And what a great job he did! Ben Grizzly and I have been trying to book this session for 8-9 years now, and for one reason or another it always ended up falling through, so we're pleased that it finally did happen. And now you get to listen to it! Tune in next week for the second half of the set, which has ME, Mr Jason, standing in on drums when Pedz' taxi arrived. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let's Radio!
This week, The Iain is on a last minute holiday, in Greeve, and The ManJay is left all on his alonesome, to try and dredge some humour up from the depths of his nervous stomach. Album Of The Month is by Jack Rundell, and Jack himself makes a surprise appearance during the show, and if I'm honest, he hangs around a leeeedle tooo lawwnng. Classic Album is Bonnie Montgomery's "Live @ The Cake Shop". We's 100% raring to go! Am you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let's Radio!
Wow! This week, Jason & the good doctor start planning next week's "Show #69 - Sexy Special", so they're a bit side-tracked and distracted from the job in hand of presenting to you a top choice of genre spanning hits. Still, the music somehow remains amazing. How do they do it? Honestly, we just don't know.

It's a bonus week, with two new Albums Of The Month, by Nan Turner & The One Night Stands (all one band name), and Jack Rundell. Jack released two LPs on one day, a while back, but I've only just discovered them, so we're gonna feature them until you're sick of them. The new Classic Album is only three years old, but I view it as a classic, and it sounds like one. It's Bonnie Montgomery's "Live @ The Cake Shop". There's also a STAR INTERVIEW!! Who's it gonna be?? You'll just have to wait and see! We's 100% raring to go! Am you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let's Radio!
Wow! This week, Jason & the good doctor thrill and entertain you in equal measure, with such highlights as "Guess The Crisp", and, erm.. Hmmm.. That's the only highlight. Apart from the consistantly amazing music, which you really cannot fault. Oh boy! I can't wait! Can you? How will it all turn out???
BAVARIAN ROCKET GROOP - Shane O'Linski is a local institution. Like marriage. Or a mental asylum. Which are often more similar than you'd hoped.. He leads this intrepid trio of youngsters through the thrashing of a lifetime, which is just what they deserve. In the bestest way possible. I had a nice night. You?

Wow! This week, Jason's back from Ireland, and the good doctor is back from, erm, his surgery? It's a smashing show, full of the doctor demonstrating his incredible foreign accent talents, and Jason playing you tunes to smile to on this summer's day. Oh boy! I can't wait! Can you?
BEST INTENTIONS - Well, we've got a fun set for you today, with Norwich's "Best Intentions" perking the place up with their punk pop type stuff. Conor and I were stage-diving off of the mixing desk, onto the lovely couch in the control room. It's OK, we'll get the mixing desk repaired before next week's session, so don't worry about that.
It's our last week of featuring My Visor's 3rd LP as Album Of The Month, and also the last week of Death III as Classic Album. But don't you worry, as there's sure to be another pair of great LPs coming up next week. For now though, we're gonna party like it's on sale for £/$19.99.
Wow! This week the show is brought to you from sunny southern Ireland, with our special co-host James Eliot Taylor! Whilst gazing out across Cobh harbour, our two lil buddies will be bringing you some fantastic tunes to brighten your day.
LITTLE RED KINGS - This week we have an "English alternative rock band" with some nice beards. But if you're thinking that they're just about the beards, then you're sorely mistaken Brian! Can I call you Brian? Thanks to my glamorous assistant Conor for recording this. Didn't he do well!
We're featuring My Visor's 3rd LP as Album Of The Month, and Death III as Classic Album, as well as another sneak preview of the new ACivilian LP, and new tracks from our showbiz buddies in Horse Party, The Tuts, Schwervon, and other top acts.
Wow! This week's show definitely doesn't start off with Shirley Temple again. Possibly... The rest of the show if a packed full of jam solo taste party of classic jam(s). It's the Mr they like to call Jason, flying solo without a license, whilst The Good Doctor is on his rounds, pressing his healing hands wherever they won't start a court case.
CINECLUB - I've been a fan of Cineclub since I heard their first LP, about seven years ago, back when Old School Studios was in Bury St Edmunds. The band was put on hold for a few years, and then started back up again a while ago. They recently released a new LP called Normandie Tower, which you can get for free here: http://cineclub.bandcamp.com/album/normandie-tower
We're featuring My Visor's 3rd LP as Album Of The Month, and Death III as Classic Album, as well as a sneak preview of the new ACivilian LP, the first track from new band Gospel, and a few more bits and bobs to tickle yer fancy.
Wow! This week's show starts off as per usual with my heroine, Shirley Temple, of course, and continues in that classic vein, with the good doctor by my side, and happiness and love in my heart. And dirty socks in my shoes.
THE SOUND OF SIGHT & YOUTHQUAKE - It's a show of two halves today. Starting off with a superb & humorous set by "The Sound Of Sight" from the last Old School Studios Private Party. Followed by a breakneck and chaotic set from Brooklyn's "Youthquake", which I recorded at The Grand Victory last June, just a few days before my 40th Birthday. So, mixed feelings there, hehe.
We're featuring the new Squarepusher LP as our Album Of The Month, although that title has somehow morphed over to My Visor and THEIR new album. So, they're both winners! We also have the last few tracks from the bloody awesome new LP by Tony Molina. Plus we the last track from the new Magoo EP, and our Classic Album is Death III, by, erm, Death of course.
Wow! This week's show is pretty bloody amazing, and I haven't even listened to it yet! So it MUST be good!! There's all sorts of stuff on it; from experimental 50s space pop from a nutter, to even older stuff from a little girl, and some new stuff that sounds like old stuff.
We're featuring the new Squarepusher LP as our Album Of The Month, and a few more tracks from the bloody awesome new LP by Tony Molina. Plus we play a song by the excellent Baron Four, another track from the new Magoo EP, and the first of four weeks featuring the new LP by My Visor. We's 100% raring to go! Am you?
Wow! This week's show features the amazing nutcase of production, Joe Meek, another awesome filmic track from Rory More, and other nuggets old and new to feast your ears on. Oh boy! I can't wait! Can you?
THE SLINGIN' BEETS - Well, you unlucky people just missed out on another amazing Old School Studios Private Party. OR DID YOU!! Yes. You did; but worry/fear not. As we; or rather, I, am going to be bringing you live recordings from the party over the next two weeks worth of shows. This week we have old showbiz buddies of mine, The Slingin' Beets, from sunny Bury St Edmunds. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let's Radio!
We're featuring the new Album Of The Month by The Black Lips for the last week, and playing a few more tracks from the bloody awesome new LP by Tony Molina. Plus we play a Thee Vicars song that's featured in a new TV commercial, cos Jason recorded it, and is very excited about it. We's 100% raring to go! Am you?
Wow! This week's show features some 50s English female crooning from Movie star Diana Dors, a couple of very filmic tracks from the amazing Rory More, and other nuggets old and new to feast your ears on.
MAX TAYLOR - Max was kind enough to come along to Old School Studios on his way to play a gig for Planet Beet's "Iain Lowery" at his OST night. After getting a little lost on the way, Max arrived, and we got on like our houses were literally on fire. What a great set this is! I hope you all enjoy it. Yes. ALL of you. I will accept nothing less.
We're still featuring the new Album Of The Month by The Black Lips, and we give you a secret sneak preview of the forthcoming Old School Studios session by Claws. Also, a few tracks from the amazing new LP by Tony Melina, the new Blood Red Shoes single, and tons more good stuffs.
Wow! This week's show find our lads confusing Betty White with Betty Davis, not once but twice! They'll also be playing some sterling music by the likes of Wanda Jackson, Little Mell, and Ava Luna.
CLAWS - Today's session features one of our favourite bands at the moment, the amazing CLAWS. The members of Claws have been in lots of great and fun Norwich bands over the last 6-7 years, even though they're all still pretty young. It's like a supergroup. Exactly like one. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let's Radio!
It's a new week, and it's another rollercoaster of emotions, up and down, up and down, through an hour of your time and ours. Our current Album Of The Month is that new one by The Black Lips, and we give you a secret sneak preview of the forthcoming Old School Studios session by Max(imum) Taylor (Overdrive).
Wow! This week's show is a rollercoaster ride of emotions and genres, featuring all the classics, from Shirley Temple, all the way through to Lalo Shifrin, passing via various sights and sounds on the way. Oh boy! I can't wait! Can you?
TRACEY BROWNE - Tracey drove down from Manchester especially for the session, so count yourself lucky listeners. It was lovely to meet and hang out with her for a few hours, and I hope you enjoy the session. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let's Radio!
It's a new week, and it's another souper soaraway copy of the audio newspaper that is, Planet Beeet! Plenty of new stuff and news stuff to get your attention, and more stuff to KEEP your attention once we've got it. We's 100% raring to go! Am you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let's Radio!
Wow! On this week's show we have a variety of styles to tempt and tease your musical pallete. The Doctor is right by Jason's side, offering the kind of hands-on support that only a fully qualified doctor can offer. Too hands on sometimes! Oh boy! I can't wait! Can you? How will it all turn out??? Let's do a radio and see!
OTHER HALF - I first saw Other Half playing in the bar of Norwich Arts Centre, at the launch night of "Pony Up". I was impressed enough to contact them the next day (OK, it might've been a few days after..) to offer them a session. And here they are, sounding fantastic, and being lovely company. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let's Radio!
This is our last week of having TWO Albums Of The Month, by Phantom Family Halo, and Snowmine. There's another remix of Booda French's new single, and a host of new music from both sides of the Atlantic. That's right. The Atlantic is long and thin, with only two edges. Like an infinitely thin slit in a piece of paper. But wet.
Wow! On this week's show we have our last week of featuring Return Of The Incredible Bongo Band, but we're still featuring "Let's Boogaloo Vol.6", and a rare funk 45s comp that Quantic put together. Also airing the new single by Sharon Jones' backing singers "Saun and Starr" again, to help it hit the top of the charts!
THE BIG ALABAMA - I heard this band a while back on local radio, and was impressed. The next day, without prompting, my glamorous assistant Conor told me that he had offered them a session. How's that for synchonicity! So here they are, The Big Alabama, recorded by Conor, at the studio that they like to call old school.
This is our 333rd show!! So to celebrate, we're playing a bunch of our favourite 33 1/3 rpm album tracks, all of which have coincedentally featured in our "Album Of The Month" and "Classic Album" segments over the years. Don't worry though, we're also continuing with our two current Albums Of The Month, by Phantom Family Halo, and Snowmine; both from Brooklyn in the Newest of Yorks. It's party time everybody! We's 100% raring to go! Am you?
Wow! On this week's show the good doctor and the goodish Jason are featuring Return Of The Incredible Bongo Band, and the Movements Vol.6 compilation, from Mr Bongo and Tramp Records respectively. Also airing the new single by Sharon Jones' backing singers "Saun and Starr", which is long awaited, and a breath of fresh air. Oh boy! I can't wait! Can you?
BEAST WITH A GUN - What an amazing Old School Studios Private Party it was! Kicking off we had the amazing Emily Winng last week, and this week we have the legendary and seldom sighted Beast With A Gun! I am a huge fan of theirs, so it was a really fun time for me to witness their sheer power and sloppy scuzziness in the flesh again. I hope at least some of that feeling transfers through the internet-radio waves to you, the listener
We continue this month's trend of having not one, but TWO Albums Of The Month, by Phantom Family Halo, and Snowmine; both from Brooklyn in the Newest of Yorks. There's a remix of Booda French's new single, and some superb hosting going on.
Wow! It really is a packed full of jam show today lady and/or gentleman. We have some new stuff from the likes of Hannah Williams, some old stuff (a whole plethora of it!), and some live afrobeat from Fela Kuti and Ginger Baker. And yes Dr Patel, Ginger Baker is a real person. I didn't make the name up. Oh boy! I can't wait! Can you?
EMILY WINNG - What an amazing Old School Studios Private Party it was! Kicking off this time we had the amazing Emily Winng, from Sargasso Trio, helped out by my Planet Beet co-host Iain, and Maria (Girl In A Thunderbolt), with added goodness from James & Ben Sargasso, and our friend Mark on the bassy guitar. Look out for Beast With A Gun next week!
This week's show features not one but TWO Albums Of The Month, by Phantom Family Halo, and Snowmine; both from Brooklyn in the Newest York. There's also a remix of Booda French, and a super freestyle by our resident rap duo, Rhyme & Soda. We's 100% raring to go! Am you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let's Radio!
Wow! It's pretty much an Instrumental Special for you lucky listener today! There's all kinds (well, not all, but some) of music today, including classics from Shirley Temple (well, I think it's brilliant), some nice relaxing jazz, and many, many, lots more of stuff. Oh boy! I can't wait! Can you?
MONTAGUES & CAPULETS - We've been wanting to book this band for quite a while, so it's with joy in our hearts that this week we bring you a great set from Norwich's "Montagues & Capulets". They'll be playing their Medieval inspired baroque n roll for the next 30+ minutes. Hope you enjoy. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let's Radio!
This week's show features Album Of The Month by Cineclub, the bizarre rantings of Andy Kaufman in our Classic Album section, and some other new stuff too, such as Other Half, Max Taylor, and Why An Eye. We's 100% raring to go! Am you?
Wow! Boy do we have an incredible show for you today! We've got stuff from all the best bands, on all the best labels, and Jason & the good doctor are wearing all the best aftershaves, to lure you lovely listeners in with the sounds and smells that reach our approval. Oh boy! I can't wait! Can you? How will it all turn out??? Let's do a radio and see!
MORNING HAIR - I used to have a band with a similarly inspired name, called The Secret Hairdresser. I had shortish hair at the time, and some days I would wake up and my hair would be perfectly tousled and styled, as if there'd been a secret hairdresser in the night. When Morning Hair get older, if the band's still together when they start balding, they could always change their name to Mourning Hair. So, they've got that to look forward to.
This week's show features a brief unexpected appearance from an old pay, as well as Album Of The Month by Cineclub, and also the bizarre rantings of Andy Kaufman. Oh, and some other new stuff too. We's 100% raring to go! Am you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let's Radio!
Wow! What an amazing show it was last week, for our big 50th Anniversary Special! How can we possibly hope to reach those dizzying heights for this, the 51st show? Well, the truth is, we can't.. But are we going to let that stop us? Probably not. Oh boy! I can't wait! Can you? How will it all turn out??? Let's do a radio and see!
FUTURE PUNX - I was lucky enough to witness, do live sound for, and record one of the first few gigs by Future Punx. I already knew Jason Kelly (previously from Fergus & Geronimo), and I'd also done sound for a band that Jason & Jake were in for a little while (Frankie Rose), so us three were already amazing showbiz buddies. Excuse the slightly crap sound during the 1st song. Things settle down by the end of the second song. Go and see Future Punx as soon as you can possibly make it, as they're awesome live, and they're also lovely people. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let's Radio!
This week's show features another superstar actor special guest interview! Excited? Exited? Still there? We also have a new Album Of The Month by Cineclub, and also the bizarre rantings of Andy Kaufman. We's 100% raring to go! Am you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let's Radio!
50th ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL!! Well, can you believe it's been 50 years, I mean, 50 shows! We're pleased as chips about the occasion, and to celebrate, we've organised a big party, and all our old pals are going to be there. Slice Tone, Rusty Nale, Charles Bradlea & Lea Fealds, and many more.
HELLO BEAR & THE THINKING MEN - This week we bring you the last two bands from the four band bill that played our most recent Old School Studios Private Party, at, erm, Old School Studios. This one was fantastic, and possibly the busiest party so far. Hello Bear & The Thinking Men are both great showbiz buddies of us here at the studios they like to call old school, so we were over the moon to have them play at the party, and you'll be over the moon too when you hear them play. As per usual at these parties there were numerous technical problems, so we can only bring you the last four songs of The Thinking Men's set. If you want to hear what their other songs sound like in front of an audience, then please go and catch them playing live at a venue near you. (Assuming you live in the Norfolk area in the UK.)
This week's show features a special guest, in the form of Andy Anastasia. Not heard of him? Well, listen out for clues as to his REAL identity.. We also have another little bout of live music from The Oh Sees, Album Of The Month by The Ritchie White Orchestra, and also the bizarre rantings of Andy Kaufman. We's 100% raring to go! Am you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let's Radio!
Well, you'll never guess who's bothered to stroll in for this week's show.. The one and only, Dr Patel is back! And Mr Jason has succeeded in impressing him with a plethora of excellently awesome music. Oh boy! I can't wait! Can you? How will it all turn out??? Let's do a radio and see!
BEN C WINN & BIRDS OF HELL - This week we bring you the first two bands from the four band bill that played our most recent Old School Studios Private Party, at, erm, Old School Studios. This one was fantastic, and possibly the busiest party so far. Both Ben and Pete (ie Birds Of Hell) are both in Sargasso Trio, which is about as good an assurance of quality as you can get, but if you want convincing, use your ears to listen to the show right now. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let's Radio!
This week's show features the Album Of The Month from The Ritchie White Orchestra, plus two new songs from that Pixies EP, EP2. Hmmm, what else.. Oh yeah! We didn't have time to play Neil Burrell's song last week or the week before, so we'll be playing that this week. Listen out for it folks! Also, live music from The Oh Sees, and some celebratory gossip from our glamorous hosts with the mosts. We's 100% raring to go! Am you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let's Radio!
Well, can you adam and believe it, I only went and bloody remembered one of the things from last week's show that I said I'd do on this week's show! You'll just have to listen in and find out what it is. Oh come on! That's not too much to ask is it? I have some great music for you after all. Oh boy! I can't wait! Can you? How will it all turn out??? Let's do a radio and see!
This week's show features the Album Of The Month from The Ritchie White Orchestra, plus our Classic Album, from Stereolab, plus two new songs from that Pixies EP, EP2. Hmmm, what else.. Oh yeah! We didn't have time to play Neil Burrell's song last week, so we'll be playing that this week. Listen out for it folks! We's 100% raring to go! Am you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let's Radio!
Well, this week's show is a right royal doozy, I can tell ya! And I'm not just saying that. I can confirm that there are at least two "Goosebump Moments", from personal experience. There are also at least two bands that I'd not heard before, and some old & rare classics. Oh boy! I can't wait! Can you? How will it all turn out??? Let's do a radio and see!
LOCO MOTIF - I first met this band when I saw a gig that Liam & his friend Liam (from The Sharps) put on at Bedfords' Crypt, under the name The Condiment Collective a few months ago. I had a great time, and Liam and I had a great chat afterwards. If you enjoy this set, and want to see Loco Motif play live, then they're playing again at Bedfords in Norwich on the 7th of February. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let's Radio!
This week's show features a new Album Of The Month from The Ritchie White Orchestra, plus our Classic Album, from Stereolab, and Iain finally remembers to bring his Christmas present for the Planet Beet staff (ie Iain and Jason). Jason is more than thrilled. Spoiler Alert! Check the photos furhter down this page to see what we're talking about. Or don't.
Another year, another excellent show full of old and new funk, soul, afrobeat, gospel, psych, and whatever other gems we have time to cram into our hour of power. Oh boy! I can't wait! Can you? How will it all turn out??? Let's do a radio and see!
BLACK JUJU - Fresh (sort of..) from a storming gig the night before at Kings in Norwich (with Juke & The All-Drunk Orchestra), Black Juju hot-footed it (in a slightly hungover fashion) to the studios they like to call old school, to rock the bunker to its foundation/s. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let's Radio!
Today is a momentus day. Iain has invented time travel, and has used this tremendous power to take us back TWO WEEKS! AMAZING HEY?!?! It has had the added bonus of meaning that Iain and Jason can NOT do all the embarassing things that they ended up doing at the Planet Beet New Years Eve Party.. So, that's a very good thing.. Oh, and of course we have Album Of The Month from The Oh Sees, plus our Classic Album, from Stereolab. We's 100% raring to go! Am you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let's Radio!
