It’s the Seal Of Approval New Years Eve Special!!! To help get you in the mood for ringing in the new year, I have a set of party based songs for you. Who knows what the new year will bring! Who knows what my hangover will feel like tomorrow! It’s all very exciting, isn’t it? Oh boy! I can’t wait! Can you? How will it all turn out??? Let’s do a radio and see!
RATS AS BIG AS DOGS – Meet my new favourite local(ish) band, who are somewhat of a Supergroup. But I won’t whitter on about that here. I’ll explain that after their storming live set, so keep on listening after the music stops. Incredible! Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
Well, today is the CHRISTMAS DAY SPECIAL!!! It features favorites old and new, and old. And new! And special features such as the new Album Of The Month from The Oh Sees, plus our Classic Album, from Stereolab. What’s that? You also want a few Christmas song? Oh, OK then!
It’s the Seal Of Approval Christmas Eve Special!!! I made an executive decision not to fill the show with cheesy Christmas songs, as my guess is that everyone else in the radio world is doing exactly that. But I can promise fantastic songs, and featured label that are local. Oh boy! I can’t wait! Can you? How will it all turn out???
SHUDDER PULPS – It’s not often that I get to have a great touring band play at one of the parties at Old School Studios, and it’s even less often that they remind me of The Country Teasers and Guided By Voices. In fact, that’s never happened until now. Check it out! Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
Well, today is the last show where we feature Album Of The Month by Metalleg & Classic Album by Sugar, but we have a pair of great LPs lined up for next week’s CHRISTMAS SPECIAL. This week though, we have three UK College based tracks back to back for ya. And the first of many songs that we’ll be playing by VAZ, who are incredible. We’s 100% raring to go! Am you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
It’s the week before Christmas, and Mr Jason is feeling all emotional and warm. And lonely; as Dr Patel is away on his honeymoon. So, to wash the loneliness out of his hair he’ll be bringing you lots of songs that his boat is currently floating to. Oh boy! I can’t wait! Can you?
JUKE & THE ALL-DRUNK ORCHESTRA – It’s always a big deal for me having this band play, as they’re about the most entertaining band around my neck of the woods, and they always get the room (and the people) dancing. “Budget Swing” is how they describe themselves, and that’s not too far off. Let your dancing feet be the judge! Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
Well, today’s show features Album Of The Month by Metalleg, Classic Album by Sugar, and more new music than you can stick a shake at. Including our favourite local rapper, Booda French, who doesn’t look like Booda, and isn’t French. And there’s a new band called The Living End! who aren’t the other living end. Incase you get confused. We’s 100% raring to go! Am you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
This week, Mr Jason attempts to loosely theme a couple of back-to-back selections, to stunning effect. Look/listen out for a special live recording of the themetune by Polyrhythmics & Lucky Brown, and many other special treats. Oh boy! I can’t wait! Can you?
PATRICK SALT RYAN – Let’s just get this out of the way first. I love Patrick Salt Ryan. I first saw him play a few years ago, to a load of rude and obnoxious drunk people in a bar. My friend Sean Dougherty (manager of The Grand Victory) told me to make sure I listened to the between song banter, and I’m glad I did, as it’s just as entertaining as the songs. Listen, as Patrick berates Sean for not telling him about a secret Black Flag show, and hear him battle with the tuning of his guitar. I don’t know about you, but to me, this is entertainment personified. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
Well, today’s show features Album Of The Month by Metalleg, Classic Album by Sugar, and more new music than you can stick a shake at. Also, Iain and Jason receive a new catalogue from sponsors-to-be, CPC.co.uk. Will it live up to the hype? Who knows… (we do..). We’s 100% raring to go! Am you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
This week, Mr Jason plays a whole plethora (?) of quality tunes, from a plethora (?) of quality artistes, and gets distracted when he discovers some very exciting news! Oh boy! I can’t wait! Can you? How will it all turn out??? Let’s do a radio and see!
ANDY SHERNOFF – This week we have a Live On Location recording for you, recorded onto analog tape at Brooklyn’s “Grand Victory” in June. Andy Shernoff is nothing short of a LEGEND of the New York punk rock scene, as bassist and songwriter in The Dictators, and now as a solo singer songwriter. And this recording shows why. There were a few people in the audience being idiots, and Andy turned them around, and had them singing along loudly by the end. Amazing! And I got to hear him tell some great stories, which you now get to hear too. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
Well, today’s show features a new Album Of The Month by Metalleg, and a new/old Classic Album by Sugar. Also, there’s the delightful sounds of Iain and Jason trying to coax a new sponsor into the PB fold. Oh, and there’s lot of other songs and that. We’re 100% raring to go though! Are you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
This week, Mr Jason will be playing some old stuff, some new stuff, and everything in-between, whilst whittering on about what he’s been upto this past week. Oh boy! I can’t wait! Can you? How will it all turn out??? Let’s do a radio and see!
BK & DAD – Wow! What a night it was! It was such a good night that it went on until 8am the next morning! The event was, “The All New Old School Studios Opening Party”, and we had bands (The Barlights & BK & Dad), DJs (Mr Jason, Malice Do-Tell & Lynch Watson), the now infamous All-Star Jam, and of course lots of the drinking. Here’s the proof, as we present to you BK & Dad, live at the All New Old School Studios Opening Party!
Well, today’s show features Album Of The Month by Nobunny, and the Classic Album by Sloan. Also, there’s the new hit single by Next Best Thing band competition winners, The Thinking Men, and many more incredible songs for you to shake a big stick at. We’re 100% raring to go though! Are you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
This week, Mr Jason is flying solo, and playing some incredible musics in the following styles, and more: funk, soul, afrobeat, swampy horror pop, and all of the other greatest genres. I know he said that last week too, but it was true then, and it’s true now, so just shut up. Shut up! How will it all turn out??? Let’s do a radio and see!
CHASING CREATION – This session has had a few false starts. First we booked a date for it, and the band had to cancel; then we booked another date for it, and WE had to cancel, as the BRAND NEW Old School Studios wasn’t quite ready yet. But finally, it has happened, and it’s been worth the wait. Here at last we present, Chasing Creation, live at the All New Old School Studios! Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
Well, today’s show features the old team back together again. Also, there’s still the Album Of The Month by Nobunny, and the Classic Album by Sloan. We’re 100% raring to go though! Are you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
This week, Mr Jason & his sexy colleague, Dr Patel, are back with some incredible funk, soul, afrobeat, swampy horror pop, and all of the other greatest genres. How will it all turn out??? Let’s do a radio and see!
THE JUGGS – It was my 40th Birthday in the middle of June this year, and to help me celebrate i decided to use up all my available money, so that I could visit all my lovely friends in New York for a month. I had a fantastic time, and whilst I was there, I recorded a bunch of amazing gigs at The Grand Victory in Brooklyn. I’ve already played you a set by The Suzan, and I follow it this week with an incredible set by The Juggs. Go and see them live if you get the chance. You won’t regret it. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
Well, today’s show is a rare solo effort by the Jayman. So, if you are a fan of Jason in particular (and let’s face it, SOME of you MUST be, right? RIGHT??!!), then you’re in for a treat. There’s a new Album Of The Month, AND a new Classic Album, so it’s going to be excitement from start to finish. Probably.. We’re 100% raring to go though! Are you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
This week, Mr Jason is joined by his little sister/associate, Tash Planet. So, expect arguing, contradiction, silly voices, in-jokes that exclude all of you lot; oh, and drugging-of-coffee…. How will it all turn out??? Let’s do a radio and see!
UNSINKABLE HEAVIES – “About time!” I hear you all say (AGAIN!)! I know, I know, you’ve been waiting since, ooh, last week, for me to play the 4th and final live set from the Westsound Reunion 2013 Show, from Nectar Lounge in Seattle. And your wait was worth it, because today we feature a set of big solos, spinning leslies, and no holds barred funk, from the spinoof subgroub featuring members of Polyrhythmics and Funk Orchestra. I present, Unsinkable Heavies. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
Well, today’s show is shaping up to be a classic. We have a special surprise appearance from an old friend, some One Minute Waltz’s, some new old stuff, and some new new stuff. Iain gets all political on our arses, and Jason is the same old cuddly Jason. Wey’re 100% raring to go though! Are you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
This week, Mr Jason brings you all sorts of assorted styles, genres, call them what you will. We’ll call them Mambo, Gothic R&B Rock’n’Roll, Soul, Funk, Jazz, and a few more that we don’t have names for. There’s also the debut appearance from SOA’s newly appointed solicitor/lawyer. How will it all turn out??? Let’s do a radio and see!
RIPPIN’ CHICKEN – “About time!” I hear you all say! I know, I know, you’ve been waiting ages for me to play another live set from the Westsound Reunion 2013 Show, from Nectar Lounge in Seattle. And your wait was worth it, because today we feature a crackin’ set from Rippin’ Chicken. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
This week’s show sees excitement and adventure ruling our once normal and boring lives. Does it let up at any point in the show? Will our heroes bow to the evil wishes of Jason’s landlord, Mick? Not bleeding’ likely cobbler! But just to be on the safe side, let’s radio and see…
Mr Jason & Dr Patel are back once more for another ‘packed full of jam’ show for you lovely listener (singular). This week they organise a singing contest, hosted by Jimmy Preacher Ellis, and featuring the vocal talents of Kethleen Emery and her 6 clones, which we grew in our “talent laboratory”.. Let’s Kick It And Radio!
Welcome to a special edition of Live at Old School Studios, this week the show is presented by Iain from Breakthruradio’s Planet Beet Show. He’s got two amazing live sets for you this week, both recorded not at Old School Studios but in the Cinema City Bar in Norwich for Iain’s night called ‘Original Soundtrack’ or O.S.T. as it’s usually called. First up we have the brilliant King Laconic who is a Norwich based Singer Songwriter with captivating songs and an individual and haunting quality to his voice. Following that will be treated to a great set from London based Rob Marr who plays a Wurly and writes great songs. Make sure you check him out too!! Come on people… Let’s Radio!
Well, you remember last week, when the show was so packed full of jam that we had to remove some jam from the show, cos the jam was spilling out all over the equipment? Well, the same thing has happened AGAIN! We’ve had to extracise (?) sufficient jam from the show to negate (?) the need to deployment (?) of the Jam Overload system. Other than that, we’re 100% raring to go though! Are you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
This week, Mr Jason brings you more entertaining banter with his new surrogate friend, “Choppy The Long-nose Pliers”. Also, we get to find out about Jason’s other imaginary friends, and to top things off, we discover some great new music, some great old music, and some not-so-great blue humour. How will it all turn out??? Let’s do a radio and see!
THE NEUTRINOS – Well, it’s taken 7 years, but we’ve finally managed to coax The Neutrinos back into Old School Studios for another session. This session is a teaser for the 8 gigs in 2 days that the band are about to do, in their own home, or “Klang Haus” as it’s currently known. It’s a special event for the “Norwich Sound & Vision” Festival, and all 8 shows are sold out in advance. I’m thrilled to have a ticket, so I’ll tell you lot how it goes. In the meantime, you’ll just have to make do with this equally intimate session. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
Well, today’s show is so packed full of jam, that we had a jam leakage, and had to remove some of the songs to NEXT week’s show, just to avoid any more damage to the equipment. It’s quite an avante guarde show, on the whole, but with a few indie-pop gems thrown in for good measure. Wey’re 100% raring to go though! Are you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
This week, Mr Jason brings you a brand new addition to the cast and crew, in the shape of “Choppy The Long-nose Pliers”. Hehe, erm, well, that can only mean that Jason definitely isn’t running out of great new ideas for the show.. Oh, and also, the show is of course packed fully of jam, of the finest musical varieties, including a brand new Polyrhythmics track that we can’t wait to air. How will it all turn out??? Let’s do a radio and see!
THE UMBRELLA ASSASSINS – Well, it’s lovely for the Jayman to have some old showbiz buddies back in the studio this week, for their third Old School Studios session. They have a brand new set of songs, and I bet you can’t wait to hear it. Well, wait no longer! Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
Well, today’s show couldn’t have turned out better, even if we’d tried. We’re just naturals. Let’s face it, even with one of my hands tied behind Iain’s back, we’ve still managed to let an awesome cat out the radio show bag of hits, and all you need to do is let the chat and music wash over you, like some kind of relaxing sponge..? Wey’re 100% raring to go though! Are you?
This week, Mr Jason brings you the show live from outer space. Or is it inner space? I forget exactly, but it’s from some space other than the usual rented commercial space that the studio is in. Lots of jazzy soundtrack style music on today’s show. Which pleases The Jayman immensely. How will it all turn out??? Let’s do a radio and see!
THE SUZAN – I was lucky enough to chance upon this band almost about two years ago at a venue called Bruar Falls in Brooklyn. Then I was lucky enough to chance upon them again about a year later in the same room, but in what was now The Grand Victory. I was by that time a fan, and leapt at the chance to record them when they played there again in June 2013. They blew me away with the catchy songs, and boundless, happy energy. I suggest you put on some dayglo clothes, and dance around your bedroom like a child. OK?
Well, today’s show is set to go down on the anals of history, where it asks or not. Messrs Iain and Jason plough through their special formula-based entertainment outlet format for the 309th time, and celebrate that fact as much as anyone could possibly expect them too. Some would say too much.. They’re 100% raring to go though! Are you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
This week, Mr Jason brings you a wang dang poodle of a show, all on his lonesome. Will he let that last fact spoil the mood?? Of course not! Instead of that, he’ll be bringing you some incredible funk, soul, afrobeat, and soundtrack music of the highest order, separated by hilarious and informative chat. How will it turn out??? Let’s do a radio and see!
BOX OF LIGHT – So, I bet you’re all wondering what my glamorous assistant Conor has been upto, musically? Oh.. You haven’t? Well, more fool you then, cos this is what he’s been upto, and it’s great! Helen, Duncan & Ros used to be in a band called The Snakes, who did an OSS session about 5 years ago. So, we’re all old showbiz buddies. It’s awesome!
Well, today’s show is set to be a classic for sure, as Iain returns from his glamorous holiday in (the south of?) France. He’s all tanned up, and topped up with energy (yeah, right..), and Jason has drunk a complimentary Red Bull Icecream, so he’s 100% raring to go too! Are you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
This week, Mr Jason and his rusty steed Dr Patel get up to all sorts of mischeif, in the flimsy guise of entertainment. Make no mistake though, the music at least is the toppest of quality. Their banter on the other hand; well, that’s open to interpretation. How will it turn out??? Let’s do a radio and see!
HEIDI GOODBYE – Heidi was brought to my attention by my good showbiz buddy Camille Davila, who has been on this show a few times before, in different guises. Camille described Heidi as sounding “like Syd Barrett, only more bluesy”, which I think is a great description. I was lucky enough to see Heidi (and Camille) play live on her recent tour, and she was amazing, and breath-taking. I had no breath left at the end. She took all of it! So, get your asthma pumps at the ready!
Well, today’s show is a super-intimate affair, with Mr Jason hiding under a togged up duvet/comforter. No, he’s not hiding FROM you, dear listener, he’s simply trying to make his dulcet tones even more melodious and sooting to your delicate ear. And to your other ear, which isn’t so important. He’s 100% raring to go! Are you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
This week, Mr Jason will be playing lots of songs sung by lovely ladies. What with him being such a superstar playboy. Erm.. That’s what it says here anyway.. Well, I’m not going to argue. I’m just here to type up the playlist, and write this intro blurb. Still, I just looked at the playlist, and there really is some great music in there, so.. How will it turn out??? Let’s do a radio and see!
OLLIE RUDGE – Today’s session guest was brought to our attention by the infamous “Johnson”, friend to the stars, from Access To Music. If Ollie’s good enough for Johnson, then he’s good enough for us. And if he’s good enough for us, then he’s good enough for you lucky listeners too! Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
Well, today’s show is a real corker. It’s pretty much 100% corks. And the corkees, Messrs Jason and Iain, will be at hand to guide you through the danger-filled waters of music that we like to call Planet Beet. We’re 100% raring to go! Are you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
Mr Jason & Sir Lotsalot are in the mood for some hot/sweet toons. Are you? Good, I thought so. Let’s see what we can muster up in the Seal Of Approval kitchen. In the meantime, it’s time to kick out some more jam, and do a radio!
COLOUR ME WEDNESDAY – Hurray! It finally happened! This session has been a long time in the making. Colour Me Wednesday first contacted me over 18 months ago, when they’d heard the “Swearin” session on this very show, and being fans of Swearin’, and enjoying the session, they asked if they could come to the studio in Norwich to record one of their own. Well, due to lack of transport it didn’t end up happening, but we kept in touch, and when I saw that the first date of their tour was going to be in Norwich, I said “hey dudes, why not swing by the studios they like to call old school after your show?”. They said “wicky wicky awesome”, or words to that effect. And here we are with this great session in hand. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
Well, it’s shaping up to be a hell of a show today! We have a new Classic Album, in the shape of Galaxie 500’s “On Fire” LP from 1989. We continue with our current Album Of The Month, which is Local Girls’ “Deluxe Kicks”. And also there’s some good news and some bad news in the form of answerphone messages. We’re 100% raring to go! Are you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
Mr Jason & the good Dr Patel are back injecting your ear holes with the best funk, soul, jazz & blues that they can find. Featuring some more great live tracks from ‘Galactic’ as well as ‘Jimmy Preacher Ellis’ & ‘Third Coast Kings’. This week definately features 100% more ‘R’ than ‘B’ can we radio? Let’s Kick It And See!
DOVE & BOWEEVIL – It’s not often that we bring you a blues band on this show, but that’s about to change. This week we have Dove & Boweevil playing a great set for you, live in the studio. There’s bluesy guitar, with a hint of soulful vocals, with a dollop of hammond organ on the side. So, settle down into your armchair, and put on your blues slippers. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
Well, Iain’s back. And the rest of him too! One of my jokes there… We really do have a packed full of jam show for you today listener. We continue with our Album Of The Month by Local Girls, and also have a plethora of cornucopias too. Haha. I don’t know what that means. We’re 100% raring to go! Are you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
CAMILLE DAVILA – It’s with open hearts that we welcome back Camille Davila to Live @ Old School Studios. The last time she appeared on the show would’ve been around 5 years ago, back when the studio was in Bury St Edmunds. A lot has happened in that time, including Camille living on various different continents, until finally settling back in England in October. Camille’s new LP is out on the 23rd, so make sure to buy it! I was really looking forward to recording this session, and I’m now looking forward to you lot hearing it. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
Well, this week The Jayman is flying solo without a license. Hopefully he’ll be bouyed by the support of his legions of fans.. Realistically though, it may help to know that as-per-usual the show is packed full of jam of the toppest variety. We’re 100% raring to go! Are you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
This week, Mr Jason massages your ears, egos, and feet, with a special show, designed specifically for converting new listeners to the Seal Of Approval cause. Why? Well, just cause, that’s why.. To do this, he’s enlisted the help of a Dolly, a Bola, an Omar, and some Spandettes of the finest quality and stretchyness! How will it turn out??? Let’s do a radio and see!
HELLO BEAR – Well, I’ve known these boys for a long time now, and I STILL don’t hate them, so that must be a good sign, right? This is their 2nd OSS session for us, and if they continue writing sets of songs of this quality then it definitely won’t be the last. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
Well, we’re over the buzz of the 300th Anniversary, so now it’s back to what we do best. Scouring the countryside (we get through loads of scouring pads!) for the newest and bestest musics for your listening pleasures. We’re 100% raring to go! Are you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
This week, Mr Jason somehow manages to talk slightly less than usual, purely so that he can cram in as much music as possible for your lucky ear or ears. He’s been on a bit of a latin “tip” recently, because of the sunny weather, so that “tip” continues, as well as some disco, experimental funk guitar from Dennis Coffey, some afrobeat, and plenty more that you’ll have to wait and hear. How will it turn out??? Let’s do a radio and see!
HORSE PARTY – Horse Party and I go back a long way. Well, the invididual band members and I, rather than the band itself, which hasn’t existed for very long. This session turned out right good! I hope you agree. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
As the glory and excitement of last week’s show subside slightly, and we settle into the 301st show, we can’t help but think back over the last nearly six years of good times. Don’t let it be said that our excitement and enthusiasm are fading, as this fantastic display of wit and music will confirm for any doubters out there. We’re 100% raring to go! Are you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
This week, Jason is flying solo without a license. But rest assured, he’s lined up a packed full of jam’s worth of music, and so you won’t have to put up with quite as much of his inane chatter as usual. Actually, now I think about it, usually it’s him AND the doctor talking, so with Jason doing ALL of the talking today, technically, you’ll probably have to endure even MORE than usual.. Oh well. How will it turn out??? Let’s do a radio and see!
RAINBOW GIRLS – What better way to spend a Summer’s afternoon, but to be holed up in a sweltering hot recording studio eh? Well, this was made a whole lot better by the company of such a lovely group of people. Rainbow Girls is a very appropriate name for the band, as they all exude sunshine, even when tired. I wish I could say the same about myself.. By the time you read this, the girls will have just finished their UK tour, so you’ll just have to endeavour to catch them live at a later date. OK? Even miserable old Iain Lowery (from the Planet Beet show) raved about them! They’re THAT good! Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
Happy Birthday to us! Yes dear listener, it’s the 300th episode of everyone’s favourite gameshow, Planet Beet!! Now, I know what you’re thinking; which is a bit creepy I suppose.. “How on earth can you improve on you’re usual tasty recipe of music & comedy?” I literally heard you ask. Well, I’m not sure of all the details yet, but I’m almost certain that it can’t get much worse than usual, so, if you’re a regular listener to the show, you might as well hang around for the next 3 hours to hear our super special extended 300th episode!! Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
This week, Jason and the good Doctor disect their relationship, their qualifications, and anything else that they can get their hands on. There is no way that this will degrade the quality of the show! Or will it..? Let’s do a radio and see!
DELAY – The band formerly known as Outworkers today bring their brand of garage rock to the studios formerly known as, erm, well, they’ve always been known as Old School Studios, so that didn’t really work.. Onwards and upwards though I say, and let the musical noise massage your ears in the only way it knows how.
This week, Jason and Iain start making plans for next week’s big “300th Birthday Special”, including making enquiries to book the brass band, and hiring someone to design the elaborate multi-level cake. It’ll all end in tiers.. (“one of my jokes there” – Jason). In the meantime, there’s a new Album Of The Month by Radiator Hospital, featuring members of PB faves “Swearin”. Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
Mr Jason & Dr Patel will be celebrating their reunion on today’s show, with a dazzling display of musical and verbal awesomeness-ness, for pretty much an hour straight. Surprise after surprise will keep you glued to your musical futon. Or will it..? Let’s do a radio and see!
KOI PARAGA – We’ve been wanting to book this band for a long while, and I’m so glad that it’s finally happened. Danny Whitehouse has been enchanting the gig-goers of Norwich for a few years now, and it was with great happiness that I found out he’d assembled a like-minded band of equally talented people. And here they are!
This week, Jason isn’t flying solo again. Again. That’s right! You guessed it! It’s the old team back together again! The dream team. The dynamic duo. Iain and Jason! As you can imagine, it’s gonna be a wild and crazy ride for the next hour. Expect a few bumps, and some unpredictable twists in the road of music and chat. Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
Mr Jason is flying solo without a license, by the seat of his pants, and without a license. Oh, I already mentioned that he doesn’t have the appropriate paperwork for his state of undress.. Well, whether clothed or partly-naked, you can bet your bottom or top dollar that he’ll present to you a top-notch display of audio dexterity, at least for the next hour or so. You’ll be beside yourself! Let’s do a radio!
MATT WATSON – This young man contacted us via our awesome Facebook page, saying that he’d heard and enjoyed the show, and wondered if he could do a session some time. Well, turns out this is the time, so here he is for your listening delight, Matt Watson! Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
This week, Jason isn’t flying solo. Again. He’s joined by world-renowned songy singwriter, James Taylor Eliot Smith Taylor Eliot-from-E.T Smith & Jones Taylor. Again. PLUS, for a bit of feminine charm we have Sultan Pepa with us. Let’s see what wisdoms and wittisisms (?) they can add to proceedings, whilst smothering everything in a sheen of professionality that simply can’t be denied. Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
Mr Jason is joined at the hip by world-class songy-singwriter, James Eliot Taylor. Listen in, as their chemistry is almost overwhelming. We really do have a packed full of jam show for you today. So many styles, genres, tempos. You’ll be beside yourself! Let’s do a radio!
CAFE BLEU – This week, we have a return visit from Cafe Bleu! Only this time it’s as a full band, rather than a solo act. We/I couldn’t be more thrilled, cos our/my glamorous assistant Conor is playing bass and organ. Also, as a special bonus treat, we have part one of Tele Novella’s 10th ever show, recorded at The Bootleg Theater in L.A on May 22nd 2013. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
This week, Jason isn’t flying solo. He’s joined by world-renowned songy singwriter, James Taylor Eliot Smith Taylor Eliot-from-E.T Smith & Jones Taylor. Let’s see what wisdoms J.E.T can add to proceedings, whilst smothering everything in a sheen of professionality that simply can’t be denied. Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
Mr Jason is rockin’ the sub-buburbs today with his unique mixture. By the sounds of it, he’s drunk too much of the stuff, but it doesn’t seem to have affected the quality control one little bit. Today’s show features instrumentals, R&B tassle-shakers, jazz, and hipster talk. As per usual. Let’s do a radio!
SMOKES, SHOOTS & LEAVES – I hold this band indirectly responsible for me repeatedly almost choking on a certain Cola flavoured drink before, during, and after their live set. Listen on, and you’ll hear what I’m talking about. Do not; I say DO NOT however let that overshadow the awesome instrumental music that they are about to play for you. Yes! For YOU! Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
This week, Jason tells you all about the lovely time he’s having on his holidays. If that sounds pretty boring to you, don’t worry; you can always skip through all the talking, and just listen to the great music that he has for you, as per usual :o) Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
Mr Jason & Sir Lotsalot are in the mood for some hot/sweet toons. Are you? Good, I thought so. Let’s see what we can muster up in the Seal Of Approval kitchen. In the meantime, it’s time to kick out some more jam, and do a radio!
DAVID THOMAS BROUGHTON – We were lucky enough to grab David before a gig at Norwich’s Birdcage venue, and snuck him into Old School Studios for an hour to get this session done before he rushed off to soundcheck. It doesn’t sound rushed at all though, and is really quite beautiful. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
This week, Iain and Jason appeal to their millions of listeners to finish a song for them. Will they now have to employ secretaries to sort through the inevitable thousands of entries that are certain to come flooding in? Erm, of course not! What are you thinking?!
JESS BARTLETT – This set was a long time coming. I first met Jess when she was looking for gigs a few years ago. She auditioned for me in the basement venue of The Bicycle Shop in Norwich, on their upright piano, and blew me away. Eventually, we managed to get her into the studio, but that session was jinxed; ruined by an over-zealous weight-lifter in the building next door. But finally, we ending up getting a great session recorded. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
This week, Iain and Jason heckle themselves, and we have a new Album Of The Month, by The David Nelligan Thing. Also, listen out for the exciting phonecall from Ollie Rudge. Man oh man, this is one corker of a show alright! Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
Mr Jason spends most of today’s show tackily, and rather desperately, trying to get you, the dear listener/s, to come along to his pre-birthday Seal Of Approval gig this Friday, at The Grand Victory, in New York. Let’s see if it works.. In the meantime, it’s time to kick out some jam, and do a radio!
THE R.P MURPHYS – I was lucky enough to see The R.P Murphy’s debut gig, in the basement crypt of Bedfords’, in Norwich at the beginning of the year, and I enjoyed their set so much that I immediately (a few weeks later) offered them a session on this very show. Luckily for your ears they accepted, and the rest my friends, is his-story. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
This week, Iain and Jason get into the swing of having a brand new sponsor. As well as talking hilarious and informatively about such hot topics as Calendars, Sheila E, Sheena E(aston), and erm, Pygmies..? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
Mr Jason & Dr Patel bring you another ground-breaking selection of music from their now multi-award winning ‘Seal Of Approval’ show. We have classic tracks from Solomon Burke, some brand new music from Lucky Brown and muchos, mochos hillarity from the most suitable faces for radio on the radio today. Let’s kick a radio and see it?!
LUCKY MYSTERY NOW ORCHESTRA – Today’s show is another very special one for me. As regular listeners to my Seal Of Approval Show (also here on BTR!) will know, I’m a big fan of Lucky Brown and his music, in all of his many bands. To the degree that the debut single on Seal Of Approval Records is going to be Lucky Brown’s “Still Listening”, in June. I’m really THAT much of a fan!! So just try to imagine how thrilled I am to be featuring live sets from Lucky’s annual “Westsound Reunion”, which has been running for at least the last seven years in the Seattle area. Lucky for me, this, the first of two shows (in Seattle and Bellingham respectively), was recorded superbly by the lovely Steve Kennedy-Williams; so my heartfelt thanks again go out to you Steve! Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
This week, Iain and Jason discuss and gossip about old age pensioners, ex-girlfriends, and other excititing topics, in this super soaraway edition of everybody’s favourite talk show, Planet Beet. Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
Well dear listener… Mr Jason & Dr Patel bring you another ground-breaking and incredible show of with an epic (pro)portion. Listen out for a bizarre but informative junk call from someone trying to sell Dr Patel a souped-up, possibly bionic, eye.. Seriously, you can’t make this stuff up! Why would you bother? Let’s Kick It & See if We Can Radio?!
LUCKY BROWN & THE BUCKS – Today’s show is a very special one for me. So just try to imagine how thrilled I am to be featuring the first of four awesome live sets from Lucky’s annual “Westsound Reunion”, which has been running for at least the last seven years in the Seattle area. Lucky for me, this, the first of two shows (in Seattle and Bellingham respectively), was recorded superbly by the lovely Steve Kennedy-Williams; so my heartfelt thanks to you Steve! Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
This week, Iain and Jason feature a brand new EP Of The Month (The Olympians), and a new Classic Album (Kelley Stoltz), plus an EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW with a world famous special guest top showbiz buddy of Jason’s.. Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
Well dear listener… Mr Jason & Dr Patel bring you music new & old in a variety of groove-driven genres in today’s show. Including some early Barry White, some technical guitar-led psych-funk from Dennis Coffey, and the new single by Nick Pride & The Pimptones amongst many others. Let’s Kick It & See if We Can Radio?!
MARI JOYCE – Today we have a lovely solo live set by the lovely solo Mari Joyce. This was recorded live on location at Iain Lowery’s “OST” night at Cinema City in Norwich, which is held every other Tuesday. And yes, incase you’re wondering, OST does stand for Original Sound Track. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
This week, Iain and Jason defy all the critics (of which there are a LOT), and pull another packed-full-of-jam show, with how-do-they-come-up-with-this-stuff “routines” about dinosaurs-as-humans, fruit and veg band names, and more comedy gold than you can stick some shakes at! Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
Well dear listener… Mr Jason & Dr Patel are back once again with some awesome funk, jazz, soul approved by the now rotted seal! The award winning broadcasters are slinging some exclusive Charles Bradley & some great new exclusive Hannah Williams into your ear holes, as well as an exclusive interview with the 90’s soul legend ‘Omar’. Let’s Kick It & See if We Can Radio?!
GUMBO VARIATION – Today we have an awesome display of musical dexterity, by a band that do justice to the Frank Zappa style that is their namesake (Gumbo Variations is from Zappa’s “Hit Rats” LP). After re-arranging the session, due to a power cut at the studio, here we finally are, and I hope you enjoy listening as much as I did! Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
This week, Iain and Jason discuss Josh Weller’s new music video during this packed-full-of-jam show. We literally had TOO much jam to pack in, so we had to move two of the songs we’d planned to play, to next week’s show. So, that’s a reason to tune in next week too. Also, look out for their superb improvisation along to Ritchie White Orchestra’s latest hit single, Jenny Brown. Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
Mr Jason & Dr Patel will be hassling your earholes with grooves galore for the next hour of your life. I do hope you had nothing else planned? We have some new releases, some re-issues, and even a re-re-issue of a pseudonym. That’s pretty much all a growing human requires to survive until next week’s show. Yep, Dr Patel has just confirmed that! Let’s Kick It And Radio!
SWEET TRANSISTOR – Today we have a rockin’ lil set from Norwich’s “Sweet Transistor”. They were a 3 piece, and now they’re a 4 piece. You might want to put your earplugs in, cos this is a loud one! But it’s GOOD loud, not bad loud, so don’t panic. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
This week, Iain and Jason impersonate each other for the whole of the show, after being asked to do so by Dan Harvey from Olympians (they’re a band). We’re always listening to our fans, and aim to please. Oh, and we’re still featuring Neil’s Children’s “Dimly Lit” as our Album Of The Month, and Dinosaur (Jr)’s debut LP from 1985. Listen out for an awesome improvised “song” from Iain and Jason towards the end of the show. Words simply can’t do it justice.. Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
Mr Jason & Dr Patel are back once more, like a persistant bout of wind, coming at your ears, and not excepting “PLEASE STOP!” as an answer! Being a professional means being persistant, and so we’re going to keep attacking you with great music until you, erm, well, I guess until you just continue listening.. Let’s Kick It And Radio!
DYING BREEDS – Regular Mr Jason listeners (Hi Mum!) will probably have already heard today’s lucky band on the Planet Beet show. Well, don’t get all cocky, cos now you’re gonna hear what they sound like live, all playing together in a room, without any special enhancements, apart from a few squirts of Botox, and a little Nip & Tuck. But enough about me! Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
This week, Iain and Jason want to dedicate the show to Jason’s good buddy Cesar, from The Ritchie White Orchestra. “My thoughts are with you, my good friend!”. That was Jason talking then.. We, or they, feature a brand new “Album Of The Month”, in the shape of Neil’s Children’s “Dimly Lit”, which will be released in mid-June. Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
Mr Jason & Dr Patel are back once more with more rare funk, soul, jazz, Iranian soul-pop, and some live music, to break things up a bit. We also continue our serialization of Charles Bradley’s latest LP, “Victim Of Love”. You can’t say fairer than that. Don’t even try. Let’s Kick It And Radio!
ACE BUSHY STRIPTEASE – I was introduced to this band by my good showbiz buddy Nan Turner (Overdrive), from Schwervon! She insisted that we played their stuff on both Planet Beet and The UK College Music Show, when she was co-hosting with me a while back. I got a bit of a taste for the band, and when I found out that they were playing here in Norwich at Olive’s Cafe I simply HAD to book them for a session. So that’s what I did.. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
This week, Iain and Jason have the new single from Olympians, an exclusive from Matt Selfe, and more other good stuff than you can stick a shake on! Quite what that means, I’m not sure, but what else have you got going on that’s more important than listening to Iain and Jason? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
CAKES & ALE – Hurray! They’re back! It’s been a few years since we had Cakes & Ale in the studio, but they’ve now change their lineup, and are back, for your, and our, delectation. Thanks to Ed for driving my 8 track reel to reel machine from London to Norwich! And make sure you stay tuned right to the end, to hear Ed tell a slightly naughty joke, hehe.. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
This week, Iain and Jason have a surprise visit from Bob Geldof, as well as a top notch playlist of sterling music, from the boys and girls of the bestest new bands on the planet (beet). We apologise for the problems with our reel to reel tape machine. From time to time it records and plays back at random speeds. We carry on as usual, otherwise the tape machine wins! We must not let that happen! Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let’s Radio!
Mr Jason & Dr Patel are back once more for another ‘packed full of jam’ show for you lovely listener (singular). This week they accidentally do something that they said they would do, as well as play you some of the best funk-come-soul-come-blues-come-jazz-come-something! Let’s Kick It And Radio!
THE GRAZING SAINTS – Was it serendipity that lead The Grazing Saints to us, and us to them, at around the same time? Well, no, it was Facebook actually.. I’d previously seen the band members in various other local bands, and it was only a matter of time til they ended up in the studios they like to call “old school”. Let us now find out what happened next.. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
This week, Iain and Jason have a hilariously entertaining game of “Change The Word In The Song Title”. Don’t ever let it be said that they don’t try to please their fans, K? Today’s show really is packed full of jam. Loads of new stuff, by loads of bands that might be new to you.
FLOORBOY – Well, apparently, according to The Guardian newspaper, Floorboy is in the Top 100 best folk artists in the UK at the moment! We’d certainly be the first to agree with that, as would Iain Lowery from the Planet Beet show, who regularly books him for his fortnightly “Original Sountrack” gig nights at Norwich’s Cinema City. Now, YOU can be the judge! Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
This week, Iain and Jason give their professional showbiz opinions on things, and Iain has the same thing done back at him. Can he cope with that kind of shredding critisism? Well, no, of course he can’t! Also, we unveil a brand new pre-themetune-themetune, courtesy of the mysterous “Dr Awkward”. We are incredibly excited, as it’s amazing! Whadaya say? Let’s Radio!
On this week’s show Jason and the good doctor feature another couple of great live tracks by the amazing “Galactic”, some avant-garde jazz from American musician’s in Europe, and of course a fine blend of funk, soul, rhythm, and of course blues. Can we kick it? Let’s Radio And See!
MEXICO – Now, if you’re trying to search for this band on your favourite search engine, you’ll need to be more specific than simply inputting “Mexico”. Luckily, the band help you by giving you specific searching instructions between the songs. So, no worries there! With that all sorted out, you can sit back, or lie down, relax, and listen to “Mexico” (band). Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
This week, Iain and Jason invent an alternative/additional new themetune, and continue with their current “Album Of The Month” (Pow Wow!) and “Classic Album” (Tilly & The Wall). They also thrill you, the listener, with hilarious chat, and wacky banter. Both of those things sound pretty similar in reality.. Still, that’s what it says here, and who am I to argue.. Whadaya say? Let’s Radio!
On this week’s show Jason and the good doctor will again be celebrating the 10th Birthday of Record Kicks, an amazing record label that never seem to put out a less-than-sterling record. As well as that, they’ll be playing some Soul, Funk, Reggae, Dub, Afrobeat, and some modern Soul-Pop for your delectation. Can we kick it? Let’s Radio And See!
CC41 – This week we have a storming set from Norwich’s CC41. They really do create a very powerful sound from just drums, one guitar, and vocals. You really should look out for them at a venue near you soon. K? We certainly will be. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
This week, Iain and Jason have their memories wiped by a weird, futuristic robot, called Trevor. It’s no bed of roses, I can tell ya. On the up side, they are given new brains, which are 1000 times more powerful than their old, stupid brains. Will this make their banter any less banal and cringeworthy? I really doubt it somehow, but, let’s listen in and find out. Whadaya say? Let’s Radio!
On this week’s show Jason and the good doctor will again be celebrating the 10th Birthday of Record Kicks, an amazing record label that never seem to put out a less-than-sterling record. As well as that, they’ll be playing some Soul, Funk, Blues, Latin, Jazz, Afrobeat, and 60s Soul-Pop for your delectation. Can we kick it? Let’s Radio And See!
THE THINKING MEN – Well, this was a fun session to record! We hope that the listening is just as much fun for you lot to do. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
This week, Iain and Jason fix the opening jingle, introduce a brand new Classic Album from Tilly & The Wall, and wow you, our listener, with in(s)ane chat that defies belief, logic, boundaries, and sometimes intelligence. All without the confines of taste, but all from the depths of their hearts and souls, so that they can pass the savings onto you, the customer. Whadaya say? Let’s Radio!
On this week’s show Jason and the good doctor will be celebrating the 10th Birthday of Record Kicks, an amazing record label that never seem to put out a less-than-sterling record. As well as that, they’ll be playing their usual mix of Soul, Funk, R&B, Blues, Afrobeat, and listen out for an exclusive interview with Nick from Record Kicks! Well, it might be him.. Might not.. Best listen in and see! Can we kick it? Let’s Radio And See!
FERAL MOUTH – Well, this session has been a long time coming. I’ve wanted to book Feral Mouth for AGES, but for one reason or another (I’m lazy and forgetful) it didn’t happen. That’s where my glamorous assistant Conor worked his organisational magic, et viola, here they are! So, put on your jumper, stick one finger in your ear, and hop around on one leg (???) to the sounds of, Feral Mouth. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
This week, our heroes tackle the forces of evil, and lose. Or do they… Yeah, they do. But don’t worry Pop-Fans, cos they’ll be back on top of the pop shop pile in no time! Maybe even before the end of the show! It’s their mission to bring you awesome musics, by awesome peoples, for your his & her pleasure. Whadaya say? Let’s Radio!
Well, the good Doctor is back in the hotseat. And I don’t mean that he’s sitting on Jason’s lap. They have separate chairs, just to clear that up.. It’s great to have the old team back together again, and to celebrate, they’ll be playing some great Soul, Funk, R&B, Blues, and erm, I forget what else. Best thing to do is just settle down into your dancing chair, and get ready to wriggle and wrythe. Can we kick it? Let’s Radio And See!
AL SOUTHGATE – HURRAY! Happy Birthday to us! It’s our 300th episode! Did you think we’d make it this far? On this week’s landmark show we have one of our oldest musical aquaintances. Iain, my co-host on Planet Beet, has been friends and in bands with Al Southgate for the last 13-14 years, and Iain first played me Al’s music back when we first met. I’ve followed Al’s career over the years, and his well-crafted songs have just got better and better, and continue to. I’m very pleased that on the 300th show we have someone that we’ve been championing since way before this show began. Thanks for listening, whether you’re new to the show, or a hardened OSS fan of old. It’s been a crazy ride, but here’s to another 6 years! Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
Well, it’s another packed full of jam show for you today. Iain’s boiler has blown up, so he’s cold and grumpy (as per usual), and we get a surprise guest appearance from the bloke from British Gas. Also, a surprise appearance from Mat Riviere, talking about his new release. Sounds almost toooo good to be true, right? Whadaya say? Let’s Radio!
YES! It’s the 2nd episode of our brand new show! With certain similarities to our old show! But, as well as concentrating on Funk & Soul, we’ll also be playing you Blues, R&B (NOT modern so-called R&B), Afrobeat, Psych-Soul, 60s Soul-Pop, and other things that you can shake sticks at..This week, the good doctor is in bed with Flu, so I’m flying solo! Can I kick it? Let’s Radio And See!
SINISTA & JIM MUSGRAVE – So, how many of you were at Old School Private Party #18? Well, if you WERE there, then you can try to listen out for yourself in the background on these live recordings. We all had a whale (or other mammal) of a time, and the All-Star Jam afterwards was as fun as usual. Possibly some highlights of that on next week’s show. But for now we bring you sets from Sinista (presenter of the UK Hip Hop Show!) and Jim Musgrave. And, HAPPY BIRTHDAY KEITH BROWN!! Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
Today is a special day. It’s the first of our new combined format shows. “What does that mean Jason?” I hear you say. Well, I think it’s you.. It could just be one of the voices in my head.. I call them my “Special Audience”. Anyway, what was I saying..? Oh yeah! What this means, is that we’re going to be crow-barring some UK College Music into the shoe, and killing two musical birds with one melodic stone, as it were.. We think it works quite well actually. So there! Whadaya say? Let’s Radio!
YES! It’s a brand new show! With certain similarities to our old show! But, as well as concentrating on Funk & Soul, we’ll also be playing you Blues, R&B (NOT modern so-called R&B), Afrobeat, Psych-Soul, 60s Soul-Pop, and other things that you can shake sticks at..Suffice to say, myself and the good doctor are very excited. And to top it all off, we’re now WEEKLY! So, we hope to catch you here every Tuesday! Can we kick it? Let’s Radio And See!
STANDING TALL – I found out about this band by accident. Conor, my glamorous assistant, happens to be close personal showbiz buddies with Josh the guitarist, who also has a solo electro act that we were interested in booking. Then Conor said “oh, Josh also has a metal band!” And so, we listened, we nodded, we approved, and we booked them. Wanna hear how it turned out? Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
It’s still cold here in Norwich in the U of the K. But we’re going to warm you up with some lovely new and not so new music. Listen out for some special guest interviews on today’s show. You never know when they’re gonna happen, but when they do, they’re worth it. Whadaya say? Let’s Radio!
This week, Jason is still hawking the debut single by Norwich-ish band “Port Isla”. He’s also debuting a bunch of new stuff, and playing the new single by Admiral Fallow, which is out this coming week. I don’t know if you can say fairer than that. “Fairer than that!”. Oh, OK, smart-arse.. Come on, whadd’ya say?… Let’s radio!
DARWIN & THE DINOSAUR – You may recognize these cheeky boys, as they’ve appeared on the show before. They’ve tightened up ridiculously over the last couple of years, and added a couple of new band members in the shape of Stephen and Ben, and Alan has gotten himself married and had a baby. Nothing so exciting has happened to me.. Maybe one day some lucky girl will pin down the Jayman, but not for now! Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
Well, it’s extremely cold here in Norwich in the U of the K. Snow and ice have brought the city to a complete standstill. But we have some music to warm the cockles of your hearts, if not your hands too. It’s the dream team, back together again, and the chemistry is flowing, as you hoped. Whadaya say? Let’s Radio!
This week, it’s our 200th show!!! We celebrate and try to get into the swing of things in the only way we know how, which means that the whole thing’s gonna end up being a bit of a letdown for everyone involved.. All I can promise is that there’s gonna be some surprises, something old, something new, and I didn’t have time to borrow anything. And weirdly, there’s no blue material for a change. Come on, whadd’ya say?… Let’s radio!
This week, Mr Jason brings you his unique brand of Funk & Soul and hilarious off-the-cuff chat for the very last time! Well, it’s not as bad, or good, as it sounds, as Jason and the good Dr Patel will be back in February with their new weekly show, the name of which is yet to be decided upon. One thing you can be sure of though, is that they’ll not only be playing you Funk & Soul, but also Blues, Afrobeat, Psych-Soul, 60s Soul-Pop, 50s R&B, and other things that you can shake sticks at..Can we kick it? Let’s Radio And See!
MAGLIA ROSA GROUP – Conor recently saw this group play, at a show organized by Jack Pout (former OSS star), and he was impressed. So, he petitioned me to book them for a session, aaaaand I did, because if it’s good enough for Conor, then it’s good enough for me, the Jayman. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
A great line up of bands in store in this week’s show. A new calssic album from ‘The Fourers’ AND a new Album of the Month too AND loads of music from New York based rock n roll groups. What for could you ask more?
Loads of great music for you on this week’s UK College Music Show, as always. It’s a bit of a Barefeet Records special today as we’ll playing at least 4 tracks from Barefeet artists. If you go to music college in the UK and would like to be featured on this show then email us some music to lain@planetbeet.co.uk (that’s LAIN, not IAIN… don’t ask…)
TOM PEARCE – I first saw Tom performing an early live set in the tiny basement of The Bicycle Shop, in Norwich, ooh, about two years ago now. I happened to be there for the soundcheck, and was so impressed that I hastily set up some primitive recording equipment, and brought some of the set to you on this very show. Since then, I’ve wanted to get him into the studio to record a session, and I now I’m pleased to say it’s happened, although not after a false start, quite literally! Tom’s car blew the head gasket on the way to the session, so he had to reschedule for the following evening, and turned up in a hire care. Tom, we’re glad you made it at last! Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
Back for the new year to bring you a whole bunch more great music, mostly new but some ‘classic’. Mr Jason is away this week but Iain is on the mic so what d’ya say… Let’s Radio!
This week’s show, No.198 is presented by Iain, who we haven’t heard for a long time now! He#s back now though, alone for a couple of weeks until Mr Jason’s return from his holidays. Come on… Let’s Radio!
This week, Mr Jason comes at you from the other side of the Atlantic. He’s on his Summer Holiday, but will his relaxed condition (OK, he’s hungover.. Happy now!?) make for excellent radio? Well, there’s only one way to find out. Let us radio and see..
CAFE BLEU – Now, I’m always interested in hearing new young musicians, especially when they name themselves after favourite LPs of mine, such as Cafe Bleu, the debut LP by The Style Council, from 1984. I’m just now trying to think of other possible band names, using titles of other LPs that I love… Pinkerton? Bernice? Something/Anything? They’re all logical candidates for band names. So, kids, hows about you do your uncle Jason a favour, and start a band called Nevada Fighter? There’s a prize for the first person to tell me which artistes’ LPs they all are, WITHOUT checking on an internet! Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let’s Radio!
This week, Jason is joined by none other than music superstar Nan Turner, from Schwervon! You’ll have heard Nan already, as she’s done Live @ Old School Studios sessions with Schwervon, and also solo. The latter of which was recorded in Jason’s flat, with an audience of handpicked friends, some of whom became Nan’s backing dancers for that evening’s gig! There’s no dance routines on today’s show, but don’t let that put you off. Whadaya say? Let’s Radio! Encore Broadcast from January 4, 2012
