It’s Transparency Week on BTR! On today’s Third Eye, we speak with Jim Garrison, head of Garrison Architects, whose Brooklyn firm installed new beach facilities for New York City’s coastlines. Garrison joins us to discuss the environmental sustainability of these new facilities, plus how the city required 19 of 35 structures to be constructed before Memorial Day weekend. And later, Hudai Yavalar is an engineer as well as the founder of the Ataturk Society of America, an independent non-profit based in Washington, DC. The Ataturk Society of America stands by the policies of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the first president of Turkey, including sovereignty, secularism, and progress. In his interview with BTR’s Tanya Silverman, Mr. Yavalar discusses the Turkish government’s response to the ongoing protest movements in Turkey, including widespread violence and arrests. He also examines the problems of the Erdogan government as a threat to a secular and democratic Turkey. Today’s spoken word segments feature the talents of Cristin O’Keefe Aptowicz and Rudy Francisco. Lastly, here are the BuzzFeed and Washington Post editorials on Edward Snowden we reference in the introduction to today’s show.
