Welcome to Third Eye Weekly. On this podcast we try and answer the big questions with intimate, personal narratives that give insight into the human experience that others might over-look.
Today’s podcast is about nerds. Maybe the unflattering image of thick bottle glasses comes to mind, buck teeth, high-waisted pants and a stack of books. But what it means to be a nerd is changing, and we’re here today to weigh in on what that change looks like.
Our big question for today is: What are the frontiers of the new nerdy?
We’ll talk with Flynn Michael, or as he is known by his fellow Jedi brethren, Fu’Mah. Flynn founded the New York Jedi Academy in 2005, dedicated to spreading the force to young Padawan learners throughout the Big Apple. It has since grown tremendously, and encompasses elements as disparate as Tibetan Buddhism and Martial Arts into its teachings.
We’ll also chat with Eric Chase, founder of NYC’s very own Literary Pub Crawl, where bookworms from all five boroughs can join together in their love of literature and every writer’s favorite fuel.
Lastly, for our Third Eye perspective into the question this week we’ll wrap it up by talking with Charles Snowden, a psychology professor at the University of Wisconsin who managed a colony of monkeys called cotton-top tamarins in search for the effects of music on animals.
Be sure to check us out as we take our questions for Nerd Week to the streets!
You can also check out a video of our interview with Eric Chase on the Greenwich Village Literary Pub Crawl.
