Welcome to today’s episode of The Daily Beat. Today we’re looking at studies and reports delving into sexism.
First up, Huff Post Business published an article titled “New PayScale Study Challenges Conventional Thinking On Why Women Make Less Than Men.”
The article’s author Jillian Berman writes:
Men and women who work the same job actually get paid about the same when they are starting out in their careers, according to a study released Thursday. However, the study said, as workers move up the ranks, men’s wages start to increasingly outpace those of their female counterparts.
The survey from salary information site Payscale appears to contradict a wide body of research on the gender wage gap. Still, the survey’s lead researcher, economist Katie Bardaro, told The Huffington Post it’s a “misbegotten myth” that a man working the same job and with the same background as a woman would get paid more.
unwomen.org published an article titled “Study on Ways and Methods to Eliminate Sexual Harassment in Egypt.”
The article reads:
This first widespread governmental study on sexual harassment in Egypt has revealed that an astounding 99.3 per cent of women and girls surveyed report having been subjected to one form or another of harassment. This study focuses on attitudes, perceptions and reactions to harassment as well as suggesting methods to eliminate sexual harassment in Egypt, which is identified as a growing problem since the revolution of January 2011.

The New York Times published an article titled “U.S. Women on the Rise as Family Breadwinner.”
The article’s author Catherine Rampell writes:
Four in 10 American households with children under age 18 now include a mother who is either the sole or primary earner for her family, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of Census and polling data released Wednesday. This share, the highest on record, has quadrupled since 1960.
