You’ve just tuned in to The Daily Beat!
This week on the Daily Beat: Matt Rice, Director of Investigations at Mercy for Animals, where he works with undercover investigators to expose animal abuse at factory farms and slaughterhouses.
Today on the Daily Beat, Monday April 4, 2016: Federal rules on humane slaughter apply to cattle, hogs and sheep, but not to poultry — even though birds amount to 95 percent of farm animals killed each year in America. Mercy for Animals, an animal rights advocate group and investigation team have investigated Butterball, House of Raeford, Perdue, and Wayne Farms in North Carolina finding that many of these farm factories are using inhumane treatments towards animals.
They’ve investigated many of the biggest pork producers in the country, including Tyson Foods, Seaboard and Pipestone System. These investigations have led to raids of factory farms, rescues of abused farmed animals, and passage of anti-cruelty laws. Most importantly, they have opened the hearts and minds of millions of people to the power of their food choices to create a kinder world.
