Don’t miss a beat!
Today: Wednesday April 1, 2015 – This week’s podcast covers an event at the CUNY Institute for Education Policy entitled, “Challenging the Tenure Laws in New York State: Why or Why Not. The debate was orchestrated by David Steiner, former commissioner of Education for New York State and founding director of the CUNY Institute for Education Policy at Roosevelt House and the Klara and Larry Silverstein Dean at Hunter College. On the pro-tenure side we has a representation from the New York State United Teachers and on the opposing end was Devora Allon, litigation partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP who is working on a case to prove the current tenure program unconstitutional.
Today, we tune into a heated debate between Kieth J. Gross from the NYS teacher’s union and Devora Allon, a lawyer fighting against the tenure system. Devora admits to the lack of substantial data backing her case that poor student test scores are due to the tenure system. Then Gross explains the legitimacy in the tenure system’s ability to evaluate teacher’s as irredeemably ineffective.
