Today: Thursday, February 5, 2015 – We cover the BRIC House event entitled “Brooklyn For Sale: The Price of Gentrification” and delve into the emotional, political, cultural, and racial issues that arise in a gentrifying neighborhood. Today’s perspective is from a gentrifier. NYU student Serena Adlerstein shares her experience as a “transient resident” and explains how she is hoping to help other gentrifiers have a more positive impact in their community. Adlerstein started a program at NYU called “Know Your City” which seeks to educate students on gentrification, the system that manifests gentrification, and how they can advocate for positive change in their communities.
