We’ve got a very special guest for this week’s Video Game edition of Sew & Tell! Holly Conrad has loved making costumes ever since she was five years old, and has turned her passion into a career. Holly has worked creating costumes for everything from haunted houses to an animatronics company, but perhaps most spectacular has been her personal work for San Francisco’s internationally renowned comic book and gaming convention, Comic Con. She’s been attending and competing in the Comic Con Masquerade for years, and it was her participation there that caught the eye of documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock. Holly is featured as one of the main stories in his most recent documentary, “Comic Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Dream,” which has led her to even more exciting opportunities in costume design and construction.

On this week’s show, Holly will talk about some of the design challenges she’s faced in creating creatures and armor, her passion for improved female character costuming, her involvement in the documentary, and her dream to one day “green” the special effects industry.

Plus, great music on the show today from Alex Winston, Ero Gray, Zambri, Xiu Xiu, and another new track from M. Ward’s latest release. So get your sword in hand, and prepare for a design battle of the fittest, here on BreakThru Radio!

You can now get “Comic Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Dreams” as a rental or download through iTunes! Watch the trailer here, and check out this great interview with Morgan & Holly, who talk about the film.

Holly was also recently featured in an interview for Paste Magazine, where she talked more about growing up with video games!

You can see the amazing costumes Holly worked on for Mass Effect 3 in this live action trailer – the game came out on March 6th, so you too can be Commander Shepard, and save the world!

Here’s a great article from G4, featuring some of Holly’s opinions on female costumes from various games.

Last but definitely not least, be sure to check out the trailer for “Blue King,” the awesome indie mockumentary about the adult film industry, brought to you by Louisville-based Evan Lee Pack & co!
