It’s Throwback Week on the station, and no one does vintage style better than the late, great Mad Men. In honor of the series finale, I’m joined by BTR’s DJ Dane, co-host of The Hash and resident food behind Dish + Drink. Together, we dissect the finer points of the finale and the impeccable fashion on the show, and I share my close encounter with the lovely Christina Hendricks (!!) And there’s a slew of great Mad Men fan resources on today’s playlist page – scroll down for quizzes, blogs, articles and more!
Plus, I have a fun playlist featuring some of today’s best vintage-inspired indie artists – you’ll hear tracks from Cali duo Best Coast, Brooklyn’s own soul singer Charles Bradley, Argentinian trio Capsula, and funky experimental psych outfit Foxygen. So celebrate some “old fashioned” style with us, here on BTR’s Sew & Tell!
All Mad Men, All The Time!
*Find out which character you are, direct from AMC! (I got Ted in this quiz, which I’m not super proud of… but it could be worse? I guess?)
*Here’s an amazing blog that does regular features on Mad Men, dissecting the style of each episode. *Much* better coverage, IMHO, than…
*The interesting but semi-lame tribute fashion slideshows from Harper’s Bazaar and Elle. (Of the two, I think Elle’s is better: at least they offer some editorial thoughts on each character.) And GQ compiled this *impressive* canonical list of every suit Don Draper has ever worn in the entire series, up until the second half of Season 7. Talk about a style bible!
*Fashionista did a great article on the styles from the series finale, featuring Don’s “Canadian tuxedo” and speculating about its significance. The author also proposes that Peggy actually *finally* finds her signature style in the final episode, just as she finally finds Stan. Interesting theory… what do you think?
*The New Yorker ran this wonderful editorial about the finale which gives the show the weight and respect it deserves as fantastic television.
*Has all this talk of Mad Men made you thirsty for an old-fashioned? Dane’s latest take on Dish + Drink features a combination of *two* different bitters, which gives the stand-by a distinctly modern feel.
