What if I told you about a tough, durable, stylish sneaker that’s made of… paper? Sounds impossible, right? This week’s guest, Steven Weinreb, is the founder and CEO of Civic Duty, a new line of footwear made from Tyvek. Tyvek is a recyclable plastic-based fiber with the texture of paper that’s remarkably resilient and water-resistant, making it an overlooked but ideal textile for garment design. On today’s show, Steven will talk about what triggered his idea to create shoes from Tyvek, the process of creating a viable prototype, the unique properties that make Tyvek a perfect fit for shoes, the challenges of launching and building Civic Duty, some of the ways Civic Duty is giving back, and more.
Plus, a playlist full of great indie releases from this year, including Christopher Denny, Hiss Golden Messenger, Zeus, and Electric Youth. So join us for some true fashion innovation here on BreakThru Radio!
