Happy Halloween, fashion fans! In honor of today’s festivities, my guest this week is Toree Arntz, designer of the beautiful, mythical pieces that make up her label Fauxtale. The Los Angeles-based artist is passionate about animals, and utilizes their naturally-shed materials to create breathtaking and dramatic fashion. What started as a few custom Halloween costumes for friends has blossomed into an amazing, expressive full line, and on today’s show, you’ll hear from Toree about the journey that took Fauxtale from party costumes to custom pieces for high-level clients, how the animals at the Wildlife Waystation sanctuary inspire her designs, why she never creates pieces for herself, and more.

Plus, a haunting playlist full of frighteningly good indie music, including tracks off the latest from Lia Ices, Sylvan Esso, and Marketa Irglova, along with older tunes from Bon Iver, Iron & Wine, and Jeremy Messersmith. And I have a few fun last-minute Halloween costume inspiration for all you procrastinators out there! Join us for a devilishly stylish hour of radio, here on BTR!

Odds & Ends
– Just like Toree mentioned, Khol’s was recently caught peddling real fur as “faux” – the retail chain is a repeat offender, and the Humane Society urges consumers to put pressure on the company and help stop this practice.
– Both PETA and the Humane Society offer consumers guides to fur-free fashion brands.
– Looking for some last-minute Halloween costume inspiration? Both R29 and HuffPo put together a great selection of cute & creative ideas for ladies (that do NOT involve sexy nurses), and this list from BuzzFeed has everyone covered!
