In keeping with BTR’s theme week, I’m delighted to bring you an interview today on Sew & Tell with professional runner Lauren Fleshman, a true talent that bridges both the worlds of fitness and fashion. In addition to being a US Champion and pro athlete, Lauren is many other things: a Stanford graduate with both a BA in Human Biology and Master’s in Education; co-founder of Picky Bars, a new line of energy bars for athletes; a recent addition to the Seattle-based Oiselle running apparel line for women, which Lauren joined after ending a ten-year relationship with Nike; the voice of a popular personal website that answers fans’ questions and offers intimate insight into her running process & lifestyle; and last but not least, a new mom!
Join us today as Lauren shares about how she got started running at age 13, the unique relationship she’s forged with indie apparel line Oiselle, a few of her favorite Oiselle pieces for winter training, the brave blog post she wrote about her recent runway appearance, the development of Picky Bars, and more.
And as always, I’ve got a great playlist for you with music from Cali artists Mikal Cronin and Kevin Morby, as well as songs off the new releases from Damien Jurado and ASPE. Tune in to this week’s show on BreakThru Radio for a dose of stylish motivation!

Odds & Ends
*Drew Barrymore is the new Editor at Large for Refinery29! And she posted this delicious-looking breakfast recipe, which I will be making STAT.
*Speaking of delicious, have you looked at the flavors & ingredients of Picky Bars? Need for Seed is at the top of my list… sunflower seed butter, apricots, and chocolate chips = energy bar perfection!
*And while we’re (still) on the topic of food, I have to confess that I’ve always turned up my nose at polenta because I associated it with those uninspiring, kind of dry, pre-cooked tubes that you slice and serve. I have since discovered homemade polenta, and I’ve been making it at least once a week. It’s the perfect warm & comforting winter side!
*Lots of sleek lines, bold colors, and an overall upscale-sporty vibe on the red carpet at last Sunday’s Golden Globes. My personal faves were Amy Adams, Cate Blanchett, Helen Mirren, Juliana Margulies, and Lizzy Caplan. Whose look did you like best?
*I LOVE the new organic cotton pj’s that my sister got me for Christmas. L-O-V-E, love. Did I mention that I love them?
*I’m attempting to turn over a new cleaning leaf this year, and this handy chart helps break it down room by room, day by day. (I definitely don’t get to everything on these lists, but I tackle a different room for a little while each day and it helps a ton!)
*April 24th is Fashion Revolution Day! Will you be participating?
*My new favorite cocktail is wintery, yet refreshing.
