What’s the one fashion accessory you’re born with? Hair! And this week’s show is dedicated to your wardrobe’s mane squeeze. Tress trends might come and go (crimping iron, anyone?), but some looks, like a simple French bun, will never go out of style. This week’s guest, Rubi Jones, has made a career out of mastering both the trends and classics. Trained in New York and now based in Paris, Rubi works as a freelance editorial stylist for some of the top French fashion houses and magazines. In addition to making sure that models look their best, Rubi writes and curates a fantastic hairstyle blog called She Lets Her Hair Down, full of practical tutorials, product recommendations, runway trends, and vintage styles. On today’s show, we’ll talk about both trendy and classic styles, and Ruby will share about her experiences training at Bumble & Bumble, her transition into editorial work, her number one secret weapon for hair care, some of her favorite up do’s, and how to get that hot “wet hair” look we saw on all the catwalks this season.

Plus, Dane will join me later to mourn the loss of his favorite hair care line and reveal his own worst hair decision, and we’ve got a great hair-themed playlist full of tracks from indie artists like Black Mountain, Miike Snow, Bleached, and more. It’s a hair-raising Friday with Sew & Tell on BTR!

*Her blog, She Lets Her Hair Down
*And don’t forget to check out her awesome new webshop, The Period Store!

My wedding hair was *exactly* what I wanted. I shopped around a bit for a stylist, but the second I got on the phone with Karen Neblung, I knew she understood!

Odds & Ends:
*Rubi recommends the Chris Rock documentary “Good Hair” for an in-depth (and hilarious!) look at the industry.
*Come back to BTR on Sunday to read Dane’s feature on charities that use hair to raise funds for and awareness about cancer.
*According to a recent feature in Refinery29, these new ingredients in hair care can help Benjamin Button your locks!
*Is gray hair the new power suit for women? Huff Po weighs in.
*Hot off the press! Harper’s Bazaar Spring 2013 Hair Trend report indicates a season of low-lying ponies, tight knots, double-braided braids (so meta!), loose waves, and accessories. And GQ’s 2013 Hair Forecast for the gents predicts slick comb-overs and clean shaves, tousled tops and long parts.
*Try the latest styles before you commit with InStyle’s instant Hollywood Makeover! Just upload a photo of yourself and select from hundreds of celebrity styles to “try on”!
*Ever wonder what to tip at the salon? R29’s handy etiquette guide helps you sort out how to save without being stingy.
*Dane recommends this powerhouse acoustic performance from Lady Gaga of “Hair” on Howard Stern – gorgeous!
