PIANOLINSKI – If you’ve been involved with the Norwich music scene at any point in the last 30 years, you’ll probably have heard of Shane Olinski (nee O’Connor). He’s amassed an archive of over 800 recorded songs, but has only officially released one commercially available LP. Over the coming months our very own Iain Lowery will be helping Shane gradually release one LP at a time via Bandcamp, so keep your eyes out for that. A few months ago, Iain started telling me about a recording that Shane had, or a one-off improvised gig that he’d done @ Norwich’s “Bicycle Shop” venue, under the name “Pianolinski”, recorded by Shane himself onto cassette. Every week when I saw Iain I hassled him to try and get hold of the recording, and Shane’s permission for me to play it on the show. Well, Iain got the recording, got Shane’s permission, and I finally built up the nerve to broadcast it to you. I know it won’t be to everone’s taste, but I hope that some of you enjoy it. There are a few structured songs in there, but mainly it’s improvised. So today we take you on location, to hear Pianolinski, for one night only, Live @ The Bicycle Shop.

This set was performed live, without a hair net (or headphones!), onto analogue cassette, @ The Bicycle Shop, Norwich, by Shane himself, hence the very lofi nature of the recording.
