Hello and welcome to Discovery Corner on BTR! This week on the show I’m featuring the San Francisco funk collective Afrolicious. If you didn’t think an afro could be delicious, think again. These guys meld together a variety of genres including jazz, Brazilian rhythms, Ghanian music, rock ‘n roll, and afrobeat (among many others) into a melting pot of sound that’s perfect for dancing or bumpin’ in your car as you drive.
I got a chance to talk with founding member and multi-instrumentalist Joe “Pleasuremaker” McGuire about what it was like putting the group together. I won’t ruin it for you, but the guy is a genuine down-to-earth dude, and his philosophy towards art mirrors the loose groove of the music.
