This week on the show I am featuring Israeli jazz guitarist Yotam Silberstein! The man hails from Tel Aviv and in our interview he discusses what jazz is like over there as well as how he and his peers dreamed of coming to New York to play. Well, that dream was realized when he was accepted into The New School. He’s been here over since though taking the occasional trip back home to be with his family, most recently to play a little gig at a friend’s jazz club and to spend the Jewish holidays “his own way.”I’ll be playing songs from his two most recent solo albums, Brasil and Resonance. Yotam and I discussed his take on faith, the glass ceiling you hit as a jazz musician in Israel, and his appreciation of “world music.” Get jazzed!
Don’t forget to hit up our Discovery Artist feature on Yotam Silberstein, it’s a good ‘un.
