This week on the show I’m featuring The Motet from Denver, CO! They are a DJ Laura pick so you already know that they’re bringing the funk. The band started way back in 1998 and as of late, released a self-titled album simply called the Motet, in February that I’ll be playing songs from. The band is gearing up for a series of Halloween shows they do every year all across Colorado, and this year they’re playing “the music of 1975.” I spoke with drummer/bandleader Dave Watts about just why they picked this year and why it seemed poignant. Watts and I discussed their decision to record their album on analog, why they’re so fond of the stretch of time between 1970 to 1983, and how the jam scene has changed since the band started. Hootie hoo!
Don’t forget to hit up the Discovery Artist feature on The Motet this week.
