This week on the show I’m featuring Canadian Punjabi sensation Preet Mani! He hails from Brampton, Ontario near Toronto. He was born in Punjab, India though it was in Canada that he developed a sensibility for the Punjabi style of music. Mani comes from a musical family so he was raised on music in the Sikh temple his family attended but his first big inspiration was Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan from Pakistan, who he would watch on YouTube. Preet Mani doesn’t have a full-length to his name yet but he’s been steadily releasing singles since 2008, which I will most assuredly be playing. I spoke with him via Skype while he was taking a break from “the studio.” We discussed the burgeoning Punjabi community in Ontario, his classical training, and what he has in the works for the future. Yes!
Be sure to check out the Discovery Artist feature on Preet Mani.
