Hello and welcome to Discovery Corner on BTR! Today we’re going to pick through the mind of Samuel Chown, the drummer from the successful duo Zorch who has a great side project called Shmu. He’s a busy dude, whose list of recent work includes recording on the Flaming Lips’ new album, making music with Bon Iver and Swans, writing music, and founding his own record label.
Shmu is music that you can spend hours dissecting, and still hear new layers upon repeated listening. The lush arrangements are just dense enough to warrant repeated digging, yet have enough space for all of the great musical ideas to breathe. It’s vast, it’s kaleidoscopic, it’s emotional… and it’s groovy. Check it out for yourself.
And don’t forget to check out the Discovery Artist feature on Shmu!
