As a former English lit major, Amelia is familiar with the romantic visions of Kerouac and Bukowski traveling alone, picking up booze and women left and right, with vibrant stories of love and loss. She’s also very familiar with how they alienate female readership because they depict a highly masculine and exclusionary narrative. She didn’t see herself in the stories but she wanted to. So she picked up and went on a month long solo road trip across the Midwest and west coast.

On her blog, Jill Kerouac, she documents her experience so that she can give herself and other female travelers a narrative they can relate to.
