Oh yesssss! So here we go, another year for the books and another new future to aim for. I decided that rather than pump up the jams and get you all hyped for 2013, I would just bring it down a few notches and put out a nice, pleasant show. Hopefully you can put this on while your sewing up your party suit. Have fun, and be safe!

This week, Iain and Jason are in fine fettle, fine form, eating fine fare, and talking fine phrases. I was tempted to spell phrases with an "f" then, hehe, which would've been pretty funny.. (I wish I'd have had the nerve now..) Anyway, I must move on. This life won't live itself without me. Will it?!? That'd be pretty weird.. Awesome idea for a movie though! Note to self: Arrange a meeting with my agent, Chas Strangler, immediately, post haste! Oh, yeah, so we're gonna play some music, and talk an' that.. Come on, whadd'ya say?... Let's radio!

RATS AS BIG AS DOGS - I go back a long way with the various members of this band, apart from Oliver Swift, who I don't think I've ever met. He's dead to me. Hehe. Jay I met during the first week that I worked in Thetford Music, a local Mon & Pop (mainly Pop) musical instrument shop in Thetford, in the U of the K. We quickly became friends, and have been for over 20 years now, at one point being in a hardcore band called "Volunteers" together. Shannon I met when she did her highschool Work Experience at Old School Studios, when she was about 15. Reuben I met when he was in teen-garage sensations "Thee Vicars", whose early gigs I booked, and I recorded most of their back-catalogue. This band is unlike any of their previous bands, though I guess it has tiny elements of each of them. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let's Radio!

This episode is sort of a recap of 2012, plus some brand new music and some older stuff that I kept listening to throughout 2012. But first, what better way to kick of this holiday edition of Wiretap Music on BTR than with two Bay Area metal legends: High on Fire and Neurosis.

Welcome world to the Party Hour on Break Thru Radio. This year emerged one hell of group with a voice and style that seems to be lost in modern day music. And just this week the group have been nominated for 6 Grammy awards, the music industries highest honor. So to celebrate the rise of this indie group, tonights show is a "fun" filled playlist with all music off of the Fueled By Ramen Record Label. Rock, Pop, Reggae and Remixes all coming your way!!!

MAMMAL HANDS - This week, my very attractive young friends, we have something a bit different. Last week we had the orchestral stylings of Wooden Arms, and this week it's the jazzy, almost trip-hop in places, instrumental leanings of Mammal Hands. I am not very good at putting bands into genres, so it's probably best that you ignore that, and just listen to the damn session. OK? Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let's Radio!

HEART OF A DOG - It's a welcome return visit from Norwich's Heart Of A Dog this week. They return with some new songs, and we hope you have a relaxing time listening to their session. It was of course recorded to analogue tape, the way God would've intended, if she'd still be alive (R.I.P). So, put on your blue suede slippers, and settle down in your favourite armchair in preparation. Oh, by the way, their song "Fall Guy" isn't a cover of the Lee Majors TV themetune, unfortunately. Still, give 'em a chance, eh? Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let's Radio!

Forget what you may know about Dinosaur Feathers. They've evolved from solo bedroom pop project to dance party karaoke machine, and -- most recently -- hard hitting rock band. Now armed with a real live drummer, more guitar riffs, and an ever-evolving arsenal of bizarre sounds, they continue to build on their infectiously sunny melodies towards jazzy punk/pop bliss. In this episode, Travis sits down with the band to talk about hitting pedestrians with your tour van, questioning the meaning of being a musician, and sharing a moment of true harmony.
DJ Wynn talks about the new Grizzly Bear record, shares who his favorite producer of the moment is, and gushes over Chilly Gonzales

HOST - This week, we have another live set from our recent Old School Studios Private Party. I think this one was party number 16? I'm not completely sure though, as the last 4-5 parties have passed in one long drunken haze. They've all been a lot of fun, and this latest one was no exception. Lorna, the singy, flutey girl from Host is a great showbiz buddy of mine, and it was great to get to see her doing her thing, at my studio, in front of a load of lovely people. That's sounds a bit more sinister than I meant it to sound.. Sorry about that. Basically, Lorna's awesome, and that's that! Anyway, back to the music. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let's Radio!

Brooklyn based band Vensaire joins us for an in studio performance and interview!
Vensaire, a five piece Brooklyn band, calls their own genre of music "instinctelectual - bridging the gap between the intellectual pursuit of conceptual music with the unthinking pull of the visceral." Utilizing acoustic and electronic elements, they pull sounds from the ether into a swirling sort of folk psychedelia akin to a mellower pre-pop Animal Collective, all in the context of a fascination with Japan. From their artwork to their live shows, aesthetic choices seem to be nearly as important as musical ones.

And in exciting news, we find out that Iain's email address, lain@planetbeet.co.uk DOES work, and that unfortunately noone has ever emailed him on it. Give it a go! You might get a prize! The 2012 Fall campaign for the White House is officially underway after the Republican and Democratic national conventions. After high profile speeches by the candidates’ spouses and running mates, as well as Clint Eastwood, Bill Clinton and, of course, the candidates themselves -- all meant to illustrate the differences between the candidates and their parties -- we ask people in New York if they were watching and whether the conventions will influence their vote.

Starlight Girls join us for an exclusive in studio performance!
Starlight Girls are a Brooklyn band specializing in downtempo pop and sultry storytelling - but not exclusively. Drawing on inspiration from the best of all your favorite musical decades (20s, 50s, 60s, 80s, etc) and genres (indie rock, french pop, surf, new wave) the Starlight Girls bring a spooky style all their own to a sort of modern day cabaret sound. Also, they make the most tasteful use of a flute this side of Jethro Tull. With a 7” collab with Xiu Xiu imminent and a debut LP due next year, it looks like we’ll be hearing much more from the group in the coming months.

POPOP @ OLD SCHOOL PRIVATE PARTY #15 - Yet ANOTHER awesome party that only a select few were invited to. Jealous? Oh... Well, you bally-well SHOULD be, cos we had two whales of a time. Aside from the awesome musical acts (Popop, Mulch & Transept), there was also great DJing from Malice & Mr Jason, and then we ended up having a sort of Full Band Karaoke, where Malice would put on a record (an 80s hit), and whoever was in the room would join in on all the band instruments, and singing, all of which was running through the PA system. It was loud, rawkus, and a lorra lorra fun! Anyway, you last week heard Mulch & Transept, and this week you get to hear "POPOP" Live @ Old School Studios Private Party #15. Plus, there's a bonus session at the end from The Covert Stylist, plucked from our vaults, recorded at Monkeyboy Studio in Cambridge in 1999. Monkeyboy Studios was my pre-Old School Studios studio. This month we've got sets by Dana Falconberry, from Austin, TX, and Schande, hometown heroes here in SF. Dana Falconberry recently signed to Antenna Farm Records and will be putting out a new record later this year. I was stoked to catch her on tour at Hemlock Tavern here in SF, one of my favorite venues. The Schande set I'm especially excited about because it has some songs from the new Jen Schande solo album, which is the soundtrack for a short film based on Chapter 19 of Valencia, a book by local author Michele Tea. Every chapter of Valencia has been made into a book, and it has inspired some really great music. Check out the book and Valencia: The Movie(s) at RadarProductions.org

PATRICK SALT RYAN - I was lucky enough to be at some of the opening nights of a new venue called The Grand Victory, and even luckier to get to record this set from Patrick Salt Ryan. He's quite a ragged genius, and his hardcore followers lapped up every second. He's also very entertaining, and just a really warm and friendly person, and I hope I get to see him play again soon. I also recorded sets by Mike Ireland (from I Am The Avalanche) and a few other great people that same night, so you might get to hear some of those recordings on future shows. I'll have to check the tapes to see how it all turned out. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let's Radio!
