It’s New Year’s Eve and we present you with part three of our partial and absolutely in no way thorough or comprehensive round up of music from 2016. And by “from,” we mean stuff that was added to the BTR library during 2016. Have at it!
Here at the end of 2016, we take a look back at the 7 record labels covered on The Sub-Inev Show so far: Graveface, Kanine, Merge, Polyvinyl, Tiny Engines, and Mint, along with some other great music that came out this year.
This week we dive further into the new, the noisy, and the surprising, with a deeper look at some of the artists on the Merge Records roster.

The Thursday Show for February 4, 2016 brings you a reworked version of a classic album by John Cale, one of the founding members of The Velvet Underground. Here is some more info from the label, Domino Records: In 1982 John Cale released his solo album Music For a New Society. Now, M:FANS- a rework of that album is a fully remastered version of the original album with and additional three unreleased bonus tracks. During the making of M:FANS, Cale found himself loathing each and every character written about in the original recording sessions but unearthing those tapes reopened those wounds. It was time to decimate the despair from 1981, breathe new energy and re-write the story.

Tunes from Sunwolf, TEEN and Silver Firs, plus much more on DJ Drew's Sunday Show this week only on BTR
If you like vintage Hollywood, then you’ll love Palm Springs. It’s a small desert city about an hour east of L.A. nestled in the Coachella Valley near the San Jacinto mountains. It’s basically a mid-century freak-out. They certainly don’t lack for food either. A visit to Workshop confirmed that. Palm Springs is no small-town when it comes to it’s food. The octopus carpaccio was beyond ridiculous. Hanabi has also been working on his pancake chops.Let me pause a moment to say that I hate anyone who calls them flapjacks or griddle cakes. Where did you grow up, in some ridiculous sit-com soundstage? They’re called pancakes, and that’s it. Anyway, I digress. He made some ricotta pancakes with lemon curd, which are kind of becoming a classic because they’re delicious. He also set about tying his love of Japanese food with pancakes. It’s no shock that Japan has it’s own take on the pancake.
It’s the weekend! It’s Saturday! The greatest day of the week! The only thing that’s better than having a day with no work is having a day with no work and great music.
