The Royal They is a NYC based band that catches you by surprise with their "normal" looks, but chaotic sound.
The Royal They is a fuzzed-out band filled with heart attack-inducing drum rolls, fuck-you lyrics and distorted guitar solos that’ll drive you mad.
The Jaguar Club has been a part of the New York music scene off and on for a number of years, but the project is coming to an end and they’re going out on an accomplished note -- with a new EP and a farewell show. We get into that, as well as some highlights from the recent Northside Festival and a preview of King Pizza Records’ Pizzafest 4.
GunFight has been a band for 10 years now and just being a band at all is hard enough, so being a band for 10 years is a laudable accomplishment -- of course, then it’s even harder to be as good as GunFight! consistently and continually is. They’ve got a new album coming out that’s been in the works for quite a while and they’re celebrating that release, as well as their 10 year existence, with a show at The Footlight in Ridgewood, Queens, on Saturday, April 22nd. Also on the bill are Raccoon Fighter, Sun Hat, and Shark? We’ll hear music from all of those bands (or at least some members of those bands), plus a few others with some clear connections to GunFight! Stephen Perry has been a fixture of the local Brooklyn/NYC music scene for the better part of a decade now. His band, The Planes, recently took a year-long hiatus, but is now back strong after playing some shows and putting out a new album called Wax Diamond. Mr. Perry was kind enough to stop by and chat about his personal musical history, from his time growing up on Cape Cod to now, as well as the new album. Additionally, we have new music by The Mad Doctors, as well as all the artists playing their upcoming LP release show at Our Wicked Lady -- Stuyedeyed, The Royal They, and Crazy Pills. And we have new and recent tunes by OxenFree, Lexie Roth, and Peter Silberman to boot. For more on The Mad Doctors, check out the the most recent editions of The Music Meetup podcast and column by BTRtoday’s very own Elena Childers.

In this episode, we hear music by artists who are playing around the NYC area from January 11th-26th. Among them are Shark?, who are playing a reunion show, and Landlady, who are playing an album release party. Also, Cake Shop, an institution of the local scene for over a decade, closed on New Year’s Eve, so we share some thoughts on that great venue.
