It's a bonus week, with two new Albums Of The Month, by Nan Turner & The One Night Stands (all one band name), and Jack Rundell. Jack released two LPs on one day, a while back, but I've only just discovered them, so we're gonna feature them until you're sick of them. The new Classic Album is only three years old, but I view it as a classic, and it sounds like one. It's Bonnie Montgomery's "Live @ The Cake Shop". There's also a STAR INTERVIEW!! Who's it gonna be?? You'll just have to wait and see! We's 100% raring to go! Am you? Hey, Whaddaya Say? Let's Radio!

This week, I’m joined by the thoughtful, talented Anna Lynett Moss of CHIYOME. With a background in printmaking and drawing, Anna was always drawn to 3-dimensional design and architectural symmetry. Just after her move from L.A. to NYC, Anna launched CHIYOME, her own line of sleek, minimalistic, fashion-forward, yet eminently practical, bags and wallets. With a commitment to sourcing and producing as locally as possible, each beautifully structured piece is hand-crafted here in NYC, at the CHIYOME studios in the iconic 5Pointz building. On today’s show, Anna will talk about her transition from art into design, the family legacy behind the CHIYOME name, the core values around which she has built CHIYOME’s business model, some of the artists and designers that inform her aesthetic, the ways in which she’s actively working to give back to the New York community around her, and more. Plus, a playlist dedicated to all the amazing albums that have come out in the month of May - you’ll hear new tracks from Sharon Van Etten, Sylvan Esso, Sofie Winterson, Archie Bronson Outfit, and more. So tune in for some timeless classics today on BreakThru Radio!

It’s Folk Week on BTR, and for today’s Sew & Tell, I got to speak with one of the thirteen designers showcased in the current Folk Couture exhibit at the American Folk Art Museum. Gary Graham is a New York-based designer whose work had captivated the fashion world even before the 1999 launch of his eponymous label. With a background in costume design, including his textile contributions to the award-winning costumes for Broadway’s “The Lion King,” Gary’s collections juxtapose seemingly contradictory elements: intricate details balance simple silhouettes, bold prints balance active textures, and clean lines balance luxe fabrics. On today’s show, Gary talks about the path that took him from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago to his own flagship store in Tribeca, the ways in which he draws on landscape and literature for inspiration, the special methods he used to create his Folk Couture coat-dress, and more. Plus, I’ve created possibly my favorite playlist of all shows today, taking a walk down my own memory lane of folk music with songs from the archives of artists like Neko Case, Iron & Wine, Phosphorescent, Sharon Van Etten, and more. So join us today on Sew & Tell as we discover style inspiration in the rich history of folk culture!
Bryan Bruchman joins me at Serious Business Records to chat about SXSW, Angel Olsen, and his band, Mount Sharp. New music from Damien Jurado, Sally Seltmann, and Eagulls.
