DJ Rekha is DJ, curator, educator, and activist.  Named ambassador of bhangra by the New York Times, she has been instrumental in placing bhangra on the map in North America. Rooted in bhangra and hip-hop her DJ sets range from Brazilian Baile Funk to Balkan Beats and everything in between. She is founder and resident of Basement Bhangra one NYC’s longest running dance parties which takes place the first Thursday of every month at Le Poisson Rouge.
New York City-based DJ Rekha is a producer, DJ personality, curator, educator and activist.  Profiled by CNN and  called the “Ambassador of Bhangra” by the New York Times and named one of the most influential South Asians by Newsweek, Rekha is among the first DJs to merge classic Bhangra and Bollywood sounds into the language of contemporary electronic dance music. Since establishing herself in the New York music scene with her inaugural event, the monthly Basement Bhangra in in 1997, Rekha has produced some of the longest running and most successful parties in New York including Bollywood Disco, Mutiny, and Beat Bazaar.
