It’s Surface Week on BTR, and fashion celebrates surface with print and pattern. On today’s show, I’m joined by dynamic entrepreneur Jesse Finkelstein who, along with his sister Meredith, is behind the creation of two unique design platforms: Print All Over Me and Byco. Print All Over Me (or PAOM) offers its users the opportunity to create digital patterns, then order garments or accessories printed with that design. Byco is a one-stop shop for designers who want to take their ideas from paper to production. Both sites put the power of creativity and fashion design into, well, YOUR hands, and serve as invaluable resources for independent designers. On today’s show, Jesse will talk about the formation of Byco and PAOM, the production process behind both concepts, the components of a successful design, Print All Over Me’s overnight success, Byco’s recent collaboration with ELLE, upcoming projects, and more. And I’ve got a playlist filled with fresh indie releases, including the latest from Wilco and The Mynabirds, along with tracks off the debut albums from “musical pranksters” Silvertron Youth Choir and up-and-coming British electro-artist Georgia. So get your surface ready for a stylish fall with Sew & Tell on BreakThru Radio!

Just because it’s Happiness week here at BTR doesn’t mean that Pharell song is any good. It’s still terrible. But, I’m eternally happy that I was able to take my vegan buddy out for a little b-day meal where he could order more than just some weak, stir-fried veggie after-thought. We went to Udupi Palace in the Mission District here in San Francisco Udupi Palace. I have a love/ love relationship with Indian cuisine because it’s so intensely flavorful. I have a love/ hate relationship with most Indian restaurants because I sometimes feel as if they’ve all conspired to offer just a basic, uninspired menu that always screams to me “they won’t know the difference anyway.” There are so many distinct cuisines within India that aren’t represented and I think deserve to be put on show. We get it. You have Tikka Masala and Nann. Nice. Anyway, Udupi Place is doing it right and it’s all vegetarian and vegan. Hanabi went H.A.M. on some shortbread recipes. You do realize he eats all this stuff so you don’t have to right? Insane Dane, what can I say? He’s out there eating at places called OM Cafe. I hope he’s expensing this stuff. Oh, and then he did a great write up for Dish + Drink about comfort food. I have to say the part about bacon-cheese fries from Nathan’s is just amazing.

It’s BTR’s 10th birthday this week!!! What an amazing accomplishment- we’ve come so far in ten years and most importantly, played so many fantastic new artists for our listeners to discover. In that spirit, for the 10th anniversary we’re starting off the show with all new music, and finishing it up with old favorites that I played when I first started at BTR in 2008 and 2009. And while you’re listening, go onto Facebook and give us a birthday like!
