Kaur B has been killing it since her debut in 2013. Though her music is solid and standard fare, her standout track on Tigerstyle’s high tempo album Digi-Bang and her most recent duet with Diljit Dosanjh demonstrates she is no ordinary Kaur. The Beyond section traverses the globe with tracks from MALFKTION, Talal Qureshi, and a new from the Vancouver based label Snakes and Ladders.
Kicking off the Bhangra set with a classic ragamuffin tune from Bally Sagoo, DJ Rekha drops tracks from an array of producers who invoke the same vibe, plus Brooklyn based artist Krithi’s debut on the show and a new track from Vancouver based Khanvict.
The weeks bhangra segment tracks are hip-hop forward. Some subtle, some more obvious, plus a collaboration with Sidhu Moosewala and Amrit Maan. In the beyond portion, DJ Rekha included an ever green folk song with a contemporary spin.
The week DJ Rekha select her recent favorite Punjabi tunes ending the first segment with a classic saxophone laden throwback. The beyond segment takes on dubby tone including a super long track that is worth the listen.
In this week’s episode, DJ Rekha drops a 2 step/garage bhangra set with new and vintage tracks that fit that bill, plus a drum and bass twist and new iteration of Bally Sagoo/Malkit Singh classic from Mumbai based producers MadStarBass.
DJ Rekha digs into the digital crates and picks out some gems from the early part of the 2000s, Delhi based producer Su Real gives Sidhu Moosewala’s 47 a Moombaton re-fix, plus a mix of sitars in the Beyond segment.
