It’s Debt Week here on BTR, and while debt is often something to avoid, every now and then it can be a good thing: we can, for example, owe a debt of gratitude to someone who helped us out along the way. This week’s Sew & Tell guests will stand to collect a lot of gratitude in future years - Rosa Thurnher and Regina Weir are founders of Factory Girls, a new fashion incubator in downtown Atlanta that’s working to support the local industry and burgeoning new talent. From studio space to production connections, mentoring relationships to educational resources, Factory Girls offers Atlanta’s design community a wealth of resources that give independent designers the boost they need to get their labels off the ground and into stores. On today’s show, you’ll hear from Regina and Rosa about the evident needs that sparked their concept for Factory Girls, the specific ways in which they support and bolster Atlanta’s independent design community, how they’re able to serve as mentors to Factory Girls’ Designers in Residence, some of the highlights of Atlanta’s contemporary fashion scene, and more. Plus, a playlist with exciting new releases from Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Toronto’s The Rural Alberta Advantage, D.C. punk band Ex Hex, and pop/psych/funk duo Foxygen. So join us today as we learn what it takes to turn a city’s fashion industry into a central creative community, right here on BTR.

Happy New Year! Welcome to the first Sew & Tell of 2014! Before we run full steam ahead into a new cycle of fashion trends, news, designs, and iconic moments, I thought it would be nice to take a look back at 2013. It was a year of genuinely remarkable, distinguished guests; so much so that it was very difficult for me to narrow down the content for today’s show! But in the end, I selected clips from a handful of interviews that I felt defined the breadth and diversity of Sew & Tell’s 2013 broadcasts. Today, you’ll hear brief excerpts from my interviews with: Jenn Rogien, costume designer for HBO’s “Girls” and the Netflix original “Orange Is the New Black;” Jenni Avins, fashion journalist for NY Magazine’s “The Cut,” Wall Street Journal’s style section, and her own site, Closettour; designer Eden Miller of Cabiria, who had the historic distinction of being the first ever plus size label to show during New York Fashion Week; and Sari Azout and Sari Bibliowicz, two childhood best friends with a fashion obsession, who turned their compulsive clothes sharing habits into one of this year’s hottest fashion merchandise sites. Plus, I’ve culled music tracks for today’s show from a few of my personal favorite releases of 2013 - you’ll hear songs today off this past year’s releases from Foxygen, Phosphorescent, Volcano Choir, and Chvrches. So join us as we say a fond & fashionable farewell to 2013; out with the old & in with the new on BreakThru Radio!
This week, it's our the third-and-final week of our world-famous "end of the year" "best of 2013" countdown show! I'm so excited that I can hardly stand it!!
Happy New Year! For Best of 2013 Week, we continue bring you the best of Third Eye in the past year.
