Happy New Years Eve! This is the last Thursday mix for 2015. I wish everyone a very happy holiday season. Here's to 2016! Today I'll be playing my absolute favorite tracks from 2015.
90-mintues of tunes are ready for you this Tuesday on BTR!
Your all-female music mix on BTR, Ladies Skate Only is ready to go!
The Thursday Mix for October 8 brings you new tunes by Wana, a band on one of my favorite labels, Drag City. You'll also hear from The Mae Trio, a group out of Melbourne, Australia and LA Band Stoney Spring. You'll also hear new music from an old favorite band of mine, K's Choice! The band formed in 1994 in Antwerp Belgium. I will be playing a song off of their latest and sixth studio album, The Phantom Cowboy.
It’s Pop Week here on BTR, and who better to feature on today’s show than Leesa Evans, stylist and costume designer behind such pop culture comedy classics as Bridesmaids, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, This Is 40, Trainwreck, and the upcoming Zoolander 2? Not only is Leesa a talented stylist and costumer designer, she is a totally lovely person who was an absolute delight to speak with! Leesa has some wonderfully thoughtful, insightful things to say about the process of costume design and cultivating style, so join us as she shares a bit about her experiences. You’ll hear from Leesa about what she learned as the daughter of a fashion designer, the joy she takes in the collaborative nature of costume design, some of the nuanced details and decisions that go into a film’s overall style, dressing the lovely ladies of Bridesmaids, her own go-to Halloween costume, and more! And for my parting playlist: a mix featuring some of my favorite pop tracks from recent years, including songs from Lia Ices, Sylvan Esso and The Mynabirds. Come join the pop fashion fun with Leesa Evans on BTR’s Sew & Tell!
90-minutes of tunes for your Tuesday. Enjoy this mix alongside your host, DJ Emily.
Get your female music fix on this edition of Ladies Skate Only this Sunday! Featuring an artist spotlight on Briana Marela.
Experimental new teaching methods, DIY schools, and more creativity are all becoming staples in an institution badly in need of reform.
It’s Happiness Week here on BTR, and there’s almost nothing in fashion that makes me happier than a beautiful linen garment. Today’s guest, Zach Weinstein, is the Sales Director for CP Shades and son of the label’s founder David Weinstein. CP Shades is a collection of beautifully-crafted classic styles made in California from natural fibers like linen, silk, and cotton. It’s one of my personal favorites, and I don’t get much happier than when I can slip into a CP Shades piece! So join us today as we hear the engaging origin story of this unique brand from Zach Weinstein, who will also tell us a bit about the challenges of working with linen fabric, their unique production facilities in San Francisco, and the delicate balance they strike between offering their customer the familiar and the fresh. Plus, a playlist filled with some of my favorite tracks from 2015 (and the end of 2014), including songs from Emmy The Great, Copeland, and Mike Pace and the Child Actors. So join us for an hour of pure indie fashion + music bliss, with Sew & Tell on BreakThru Radio!

It’s Disruptive Week on BTR, and here on Sew & Tell I got to speak with the co-founder of a new online retail platform that’s disrupting the fashion mainstream. Maxine Bédat and Soraya Darabi created Zady as a shopping resource that enables its customers to make purchases with confidence and conscience. Zady is a one-stop shop for elegantly presented, impeccably curated, thoroughly vetted selections of sustainable style, and at just over a year old, the site has already become synonymous with truly fashionable slow fashion. On today’s show, you’ll hear from Maxine about the high school friendship that started it all, their newly launched in-house Zady label, the shift in consumer perspective that’s growing and what it means for the future of manufacturing and retail, some of her own favorite spring fashions, and more. Plus, I’ve got a playlist full of great new indie hits, including tracks from S. Carey, Liverpool-based trio All We Are, and ethereal pop singer-songwriter Emmy the Great. So tune in and turn it up - we’re all about stylish disruption this week on BreakThru Radio!

Have you ever wondered what fashion college is *really* like? On today’s show, for BTR’s College Week, my guest is Parsons design student Jaclyn Barr. Parsons was the first school in the U.S. to offer programs in design, and boasts some seriously prestigious fashion alumni including Donna Karan, Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford, Isaac Mizrahi, Lela Rose, Anna Sui, and Alexander Wang (to name just a few!) Jaclyn is in her second year at the school, and on today’s show, she shares about what got her interested in fashion, how she learned to sew, what it’s like to study fashion at Parsons and what makes Parsons unique in comparison to other fashion programs, and some of the current trends hitting the sidewalks of Brooklyn. Plus, I’ve got a playlist packed with new and exciting music, including the latest from Richmond artist Matthew E. White, London based singer-songwriter Emmy the Great, and Puerto Rican musician/producer AJ Davila. So tune in and study up on style - it’s Sew & Tell on BreakThru Radio!
