It’s summer!! Well, not officially, but mother nature certainly seems to think so. And, just like it does every year, Memorial Day marked the start of beach-y barb-b-ques and potluck picnics. But BTR also wanted to honor the holiday for its true purpose, and so this week the station is hosting Armed Forces Week. Sew & Tell is participating with a guest whose work repurposes military supplies into beautiful, unique handbags. Meghan Parsons and Manuel Opp started the Jack & Marjorie line when they met in Tokyo seven years ago. The two began fashioning fabulously functional but chic accessories from parachutes, wool blankets, canvas bags and other army surplus goods, and when they moved back to Toronto, the line took off. Named for Meghan’s maternal grandparents, the Jack & Marjorie bags are a wonderful balance of tough, durable practicality and delicate design sensibility. On today’s show, Meghan talks about the launch of the line, her top priority when designing a bag, and the shifting trends she’s seen in Toronto’s sustainable fashion community. Plus! New music from Black Lips, Get People, and a Chuck Brody Remix of An Horse. Grab a Corona and start your weekend early with BTR…
