International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on March 8th to commemorate women’s rights movements. This year, the non-profit organization for women’s rights, Women’s March, organized #ADayWithoutAWoman rallies to show what happens when women join together to voice concerns of the female population.

In New York City two rallies were held and multiple events took place. BTRtoday visited Central Park East to join the celebration of feminism with women and allies in solidarity.

Our wonderful ladies of BTR! Taia, Elena, and Becca are our column writers and overall amazing, inspiring women.

Women of all ages, backgrounds, and religions gathered together to send a powerful message to remind the world that women deserve equality, that women are people.

The women of the rally were asking for equality, respect and opportunity. Many speakers brought up struggles of the gag rule and Planned Parenthood, as well as rape and misogyny.

In peaceful demonstration, women chanted, “A day without a woman, a day without me.”

If you ever fail to remember that women are people and deserve equal rights, I dare you to say that to you mother’s face.
