In lieu of Trump’s recent executive orders, the people of New York gathered Wednesday, Feb. 1 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Foley Square in lower Manhattan to remember America’s true values and that the U.S., is indeed, the land of immigrants.

The peaceful protest was initiated by the Syria Solidarity New York City and CISPOS-NYC: Committee In Solidarity with the People of Syria and sponsored by the NY Immigration Coalition (Text NYIC to 864237 for ongoing updates!).

Many speakers at the march, including New York City comptroller Scott Stringer, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer and state assembly member Jo Anne Simon, gave powerful insights on uniting the people of America and fighting against xenophobia.

“We are all immigrants, we are all in this together, and we stand with Lady Liberty,” said Simon during her speech.

“Syrians are not terrorists, we are running away from the terrorists,” a young asylum seeker said, crying into the microphone.

With fab and glitter, the marchers hope to send a powerful message of unity and love to all.
